Marketing & Business Development Specialist (Marketing Department) – Calgary, AB
Job Summary
We are currently looking for a dynamic and experienced Marketing and Business Development Specialist to join the Alberta Region’s Marketing department, primarily located at the downtown Calgary office. This position will be involved with direct and ongoing contact with the Firm’s partners and associates as well as their legal assistants. The Marketing and Business Development Specialist is responsible for both strategic and tactical support for various practice groups. The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be collaborative, professional, adaptable, positive and interested in their work.
Work Environment
Hybrid remote work arrangements are available following three (3) months of employment, subject to the requirements as per department and business needs for onsite office support. The successful candidate must live in or around Calgary, AB and be able to commute to the office as often as required. While this is a hybrid role, the majority of the work may be onsite. Occasional onsite presence may be required at our Tsuut’ina Nation location from time to time, or travel to other locations for special events.
Fasken’s Calgary office has a mandatory minimum requirement of three (3) days in office and up to two (2) days remote, work permitting. In-office requirements are subject to change on a given week, based on business needs, as determined by the Firm’s Management and applicable business group. While hybrid work is offered, it is not considered a guarantee if business needs require additional onsite support in a given week. All Alberta Firm members are required to be onsite on Thursday weekly as a common anchor day.
Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Flexibility for occasional pre-authorized overtime on evenings or weekends may be required on an infrequent basis to meet business needs or for special event support. In some cases, this may include urgent matters that arise on short notice and cannot be scheduled in advance. The Firm will make reasonable efforts to provide as much notice as possible in these circumstances.

Primary Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of industry and practice group marketing and business development plans. Track activity, engagement and outcomes and assist in preparing reports identifying results, observations and recommendations.
- Assist in the execution of integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns aligned with regional, practice and industry priorities.
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of regional credential documents, pitches, proposals and presentations, including gathering inputs, maintaining content and supporting customization efforts. Occasionally prepare regional content and materials in support of Firmwide pitches, proposals and other strategic opportunities.
- Research, evaluate and recommend sponsorship opportunities, memberships, charitable activities and other regional profile-building opportunities, assessing their alignment with regional priorities, client relationships, community commitments and available resources. Support approved activations in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator and relevant stakeholders.
- Lead the region’s responsibilities as it relates to directory submissions, ensuring quality output and support. Lead nomination process for Firm, lawyer and/or Marketing awards and client industry awards;
- Support lawyers by providing practical business development and marketing information, resources and recommendations, escalating strategic matters to the Senior Marketing Manager as appropriate;
- Develop creative briefs and work with graphic designers to conceptualize and produce advertisements, invitations, and other branded assets that meet project objectives and comply with brand guidelines;
- Work with lawyers and Firmwide communications colleagues to develop, edit and deliver regional bulletins, newsletters, articles and other communications. Provide content, audience and distribution direction, ensuring materials are clear, concise, client-focused, consistent with Firm standards and appropriately tailored for digital, national or external publication.
- Support the identification of new business opportunities and priority targets through research, preparation of qualified prospect lists and participation in client-specific initiatives and target teams;
- Work with lawyers to develop and maintain client-focused brochures, fact sheets and other credential materials that are current, accurate and consistent with Firm and brand standards;
- Build effective working relationships with Firmwide and other regional marketing, communications, and business development colleagues to support coordination and information sharing;
- Assist Senior Director, Business Development and Pursuits with board reports, client audits, and special projects, as required; and
- Provide support to the Senior Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator, as well as back up coverage in absences.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in marketing, communications, business or a related discipline is required; however, an equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and professional expertise will also be considered.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive marketing experience, preferably in a law firm, professional-services or complex B2B environment.
- Exceptional project management skills, communication skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive or reputationally significant information.
- Knowledge of CRM and email marketing platforms; website content management tools; Canva; social media management tools and approved generative-AI tools.
- Curiosity about emerging marketing practices and technology, with demonstrated ability to learn and responsibly adopt new tools.
