Systems Administrator
Job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Systems Administrator based in Canada.
As a Systems Administrator, you will drive the secure, reliable, and compliant operation of advanced cloud-hosted research applications, agentic AI frameworks, and scientific SaaS platforms. Operating in a high-tech, fully remote environment, your work directly bridges the gap between scientific innovation and enterprise IT by transitioning research prototypes into robust, production-ready services. You will maintain cloud infrastructure across GCP and AWS, oversee containerized environments, and manage modern identity, security, and secrets configurations. Collaborating with cross-functional teams of scientists, developers, cybersecurity experts, and data engineers, your technical leadership will safeguard system integrity, optimize cloud costs, and elevate operational resilience across cutting-edge AI and scientific data ecosystems.
Accountabilities:
- Administer GCP and AWS cloud projects, managing identity and access management (IAM), service accounts, RBAC, SSO, OAuth, networking, storage, compute, and third-party SaaS integrations.
- Operate and maintain Cloud Run, Docker containers, container registries, DNS, TLS certificates, load balancers, and Google Cloud Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP).
- Support agentic AI tools, MCP servers, APIs, machine-to-machine authentication, secret management, API keys, and model integration frameworks.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code workflows, ensuring automated security scanning, testing, deployment traceability, and Python dependency management.
- Monitor system health, performance metrics, logs, token usage, and cloud expenses, proactively mitigating service disruptions, model/tool failures, and API quota limits.
- Manage incident response, root-cause analysis, disaster recovery, vulnerability remediation, and service request tickets using ServiceNow and Jira.
- Identify unmanaged shadow AI services or overprivileged identities, while producing comprehensive operational runbooks and technical documentation for production deployments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in systems and cloud administration within production environments across GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Strong proficiency in Linux administration, Docker containers, Python environments, API management, and core networking protocols (DNS, TLS, load balancing).
- Robust knowledge of cloud security, IAM, SSO, OAuth, secrets management, and container orchestration platforms such as Cloud Run or Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, monitoring and observability tools, and ITSM ticketing platforms (ServiceNow, Jira).
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills with a strong capacity for cross-functional collaboration.
- Preferred experience or familiarity with Vertex AI, agentic AI orchestration, MCP servers, hybrid-cloud setups, scientific computing/bioinformatics platforms, or relevant security certifications.
Benefits
- Competitive salary compensation corresponding with technical expertise and market standards.
- 100% remote flexibility, offering high autonomy and work-life balance.
- Direct exposure to cutting-edge technologies, including agentic AI architectures, machine learning frameworks, and advanced scientific SaaS tools.
- Continuous opportunities for professional growth and skill development within a dynamic, cross-functional technical team.
- Flexible contractor or employment setup backed by streamlined digital collaboration tooling and modern infrastructure workflows.
