Data Analyst / Biostatistician – Danish Blood Donor Study (DBDS) Department of Clinical Immunology, Aarhus University Hospital
Jobbeskrivelse
We are seeking a data analyst with strong statistical and data analytical skills to join the Danish Blood Donor Study (DBDS). The ideal candidate enjoys working with large, complex datasets and is also interested in the biological and clinical questions behind the data.
What we offer
DBDS is a national research project built on one of the world's largest biobanks, with more than 180,000 participants and over 3 million plasma samples. The study combines laboratory and registry data with phenotype data collected through, for example, questionnaires. Our research covers a wide range of topics, including how genetic factors and plasma biomarkers can predict disease. DBDS is a unique cohort because of its granular longitudinal data and blood samples, which allow us to study biomarker change over time.
The position offers an exceptional opportunity to work with large, complex datasets in a research environment where data analysis is closely integrated with clinical and biological research. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team and apply your analytical skills to research with the potential to improve public health.
The Department of Clinical Immunology (Blodbank og Immunologi) at Aarhus University Hospital is Central Denmark Region's specialist department for clinical immunology. The department has approximately 220 employees and is responsible for producing blood components; laboratory testing, diagnostic investigations and advisory services in transfusion medicine and transplant immunology; HIV and hepatitis testing; autoimmune diagnostics; and the investigation of immunodeficiencies.
Job description
As a data analyst in DBDS, you will analyse large, complex longitudinal datasets based on registry, questionnaire and biomarker data. You will contribute to research projects across DBDS and help translate research questions into robust analyses and meaningful results.
You will plan and conduct statistical analyses and select methods suited to each research question. You will collaborate closely with researchers, data managers and statisticians within the department and across the national DBDS network, where you will advise researchers on statistical methods and help them plan and interpret their analyses.
You will also contribute to the day-to-day operation of DBDS, including occasional data management and data quality tasks as needed.
Your profile
Ideally, you have a background in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, mathematics, data science or a related field. You have strong skills in advanced data analysis, in developing and applying AI and machine learning methods, or both. What matters most is a solid understanding of statistical principles and the ability to select, apply and critically assess the methods best suited to each research question and dataset. A PhD or equivalent experience is preferred.
It is important to us that you
- have experience handling and analysing large longitudinal datasets
- have strong skills in R, Python or similar for data analysis and processing
- have a solid understanding of statistical methods and can select appropriate models for each research question
- have experience with, or an interest in, registry data and/or biomarker data
- can plan and carry out analyses independently
- can interpret data and communicate results clearly and precisely
- understand, or are keen to learn about, the biological and clinical questions behind the analyses
- work in a structured way and can manage several tasks at once
- collaborate effectively and thrive in interdisciplinary settings
- have strong communication skills in English.
Experience with epidemiological or population-based studies, or with biobank data, is an advantage.
