Requirements

• Experience in personalisation, recommendations and/or search is preferred.
• Hands-on experience using Python, SQL and Snowflake to work with large datasets.
• Experience with machine learning model development and evaluation across search, personalisation and recommendations.
• Familiarity with model explainability techniques, including SHAP.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, evaluate and improve machine learning models, taking ideas from experimentation through to measurable customer impact.
• Explore how agentic AI concepts, including goal-driven systems, multi-step reasoning and tool use, can enhance discovery experiences.
• Develop features, evaluate models and identify opportunities to improve relevance, engagement and customer experience using large datasets.
• Use explainability techniques to understand model behaviour and communicate findings to product, engineering and business stakeholders.
• Work with Data, Product and Engineering teams to shape the models and the direction of the platform.

Were hiring a Data Scientist on an initial three-month contract to help build a next-generation platform for AI-powered product search and discovery. The role is based in Manchester with hybrid working, and youll join our high-performing, growing Data Science team. Our work spans agentic search, recommendation engines, personalisation, search relevance and ranking, AI augmentation, and explainable AI. This is a production-focused role, with work intended to directly influence customer experience. We expect start dates no later than 19 October and will shortlist during the week commencing 5 October.
