HSE Advisor - Hinkley Point
Job description
Ledwood are looking to recruit an experienced HSE Advisor to join our team at Hinkley Point C.
Where our contract is for the Mechanical Equipment Erection Works within the turbine buildings. Each building consists of 38 packages of equipment ranging from small 2Te pumps to a 2,440Te condenser. Overall, Ledwood will be installing 12,750Te of equipment as part of Arabelle’s work supplying two conventional power islands for Hinkley Point C, which include the Arabelle steam turbine. The Arabelle turbines at Hinkley Point C will be the largest ever built, longer than an Airbus 380 and capable of producing 1,770 MW each.
The Role
A hands-on, visible EHS role with a strong presence at the point of work. You will work closely with project management, supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and the workforce to provide competent EHS advice, coaching, challenge and assurance.
The successful candidate will play an important role in identifying risks early, verifying that controls are actually being implemented and escalating issues where standards are not being met.
You will be part of the project EHS team supporting Ledwood's objective of ZERO incidents and continual improvement in EHS performance.
Your new position will involve:
- Maintain a visible daily presence across project and operational work areas.
- Engage directly with employees, supervisors and management at the point of work.
- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, emerging risks and weaknesses in controls.
- Provide practical EHS advice, coaching and constructive challenge.
- Support supervision with risk assessments, RAMS and work planning.
- Verify that agreed controls are implemented and remain effective.
- Undertake regular EHS inspections, audits and assurance activities.
- Inspect Ledwood and subcontractor work areas and monitor standards.
- Record findings accurately and monitor corrective actions through to effective close-out.
- Support the management of incidents, near misses and other EHS events.
- Assist with or undertake incident investigations and identify underlying and root causes.
- Identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
- Deliver and support EHS inductions, toolbox talks and workforce briefings.
- Deliver necessary train the trainer trainings (External Training would be provided)
- Identify training and competency deficiencies and escalate significant gaps.
- Support implementation of the Ledwood EHS Management System and Project EHS&T Plan.
- Maintain accurate EHS records and provide weekly and monthly EHS information.
- Identify trends, recurring issues and emerging risks.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequirements
Essential:
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent recognised EHS qualification.
- Good knowledge and understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental requirements.
- Practical EHS experience within construction, engineering, manufacturing or a similarly high-risk environment.
- Experience undertaking workplace inspections and audits.
- Experience supporting risk assessments and RAMS processes.
- Experience supporting incident and near-miss investigations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in standard IT systems for reporting and record keeping.
Desirable:
- IOSH membership or equivalent professional membership.
- Experience working on major projects or within complex engineering environments.
- Nuclear, energy or other highly regulated industry experience.
- Experience working with client EHS management systems.
- Formal incident investigation training.
- Environmental management experience.
- Occupational health or occupational hygiene awareness.
- Behavioural safety and workforce engagement experience.
- Experience with audit and assurance systems
