Security
Our security consultancy group provides objective, evidence-based advice and practical design solutions. We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, we consider the risks, operational requirements and wider context of each project to develop proportionate and effective security strategies.
Security should be integrated into a project from the earliest stages of design rather than treated as an additional requirement. Our dedicated security offering works closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors and specialist stakeholders to embed security throughout the project lifecycle. We provide support across all stages of the project lifecycle, offering a comprehensive and integrated approach that is aligned with the client's objectives and requirements.
As part of Hoare Lea and the wider Tetra Tech group, we work across a broad range of sectors, to include but not limited to, healthcare, commercial, residential, education, science and research, defense, infrastructure, hospitality and the ever developing mission critical sector..
We are seeking security professionals at Senior or a Principal level to join our team in London or Manchester. The level of appointment will reflect your experience, technical capability, leadership responsibilities and commercial experience.

The role
Owing to your experience, you will encounter responsibility for;
- Developing security strategies, security need assessments, threat and risk assessments and operational security requirements.
- Assisting architects and stakeholders with Secure by Design and planning applications.
- Producing performance criteria for physical security measures.
- Producing security designs, specifications, schematics, schedules, drawings and technical reports.
- Designing and coordinating electronic security systems, including access control, Video Surveillance Systems, intruder detection, intercoms and perimeter protection.
- Designing fibre and copper networks to support security field devices and the wider security integration.
- Design of command-and-control rooms to support security designs.
- Integrating security requirements with architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and digital design disciplines.
- Undertaking site surveys, existing-condition assessments and project reviews.
- Aligning security deliverables with the relevant stages of the RIBA Plan of Work and other clients applied project management plans of work.
- Attending and contributing to client, stakeholder and design team meetings.
- Presenting technical recommendations and design proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Managing individual tasks, project workstreams or complete commissions, depending on your level of appointment.
- Preparing scopes of services, fee proposals, resource requirements and project programmes.
- Carrying out technical reviews, quality assurance and design checking.
- Managing project information, deliverables, deadlines and commercial requirements.
- Building effective relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and specialist security stakeholders.
- Supporting bids, marketing activity, presentations and business development.
- Researching emerging technologies, relevant standards and best-practice approaches.
- Supporting, managing and mentoring the junior members of the group
- Working independently while contributing to a collaborative and multidisciplinary team.
- At Senior level, you will focus on delivering high-quality technical work, coordinating project tasks, managing your workload and supporting junior colleagues in achieving quality.
- At Principal level, you will take responsibility for leading projects or workstreams, managing client relationships, coordinating technical delivery and reviewing the work of others.
What we are looking for
- We are only interested in candidates with proven experience in security consultancy, security engineering, electronic security design.
- You should therefore be able to demonstrate:
- Experience delivering security work on built-environment projects.
- Knowledge of electronic security systems and their application within buildings and wider developments.
- Experience producing security strategies, risk assessments, specifications, drawings, schedules or technical reports.
- An understanding of project delivery stages and the RIBA Plan of Work and other experiences with project plans.
- Knowledge of relevant security standards, specifications, legislation and best-practice guidance.
- Experience and proven experience in using CAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office and similar software.
- The ability to produce accurate and well-structured technical documentation.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical and organisational skills.
- The ability to explain technical information clearly to clients and wider design teams.
- Experience managing priorities, programmes, deliverables and project requirements and support the junior members of the group.
- An understanding of project scopes, fee proposals, commercial requirements and business governance. A strong focus on quality, accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A flexible, resilient and collaborative approach.
- The ability to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard before appointment and undertake further National Security Vetting where required.
For Principal appointments, we would also welcome experience in:
- Experience in managing projects, workstreams or multiple commissions.
- Experience in line management.
- Leading client and stakeholder engagement.
- Clear technical ability in reviewing and approving technical designs and documentation.
- Proven experience in preparing detailed fee proposals with dedicated resource planning and supporting business development.
- A strong proven record of project management and commercial risk management proven experience and willingness in managing, mentoring or line managing junior consultants.
- Strong ability in contributing to technical standards, maintaining quality assurance and service development.
- Developing, maintaining and building client relationships.
- Supporting resource planning and the ongoing growth of the security team.
