Requirements
- Extensive technical expertise and a proven track record designing secure, integrated solutions across complex environments.
- Proven Solution Architecture experience across multiple technical domains, including infrastructure, applications, data, networking and cloud.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise and solution architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, MODAF and/or NAF.
- Advanced understanding of secure system design principles and cybersecurity standards.
- Experience designing and shaping architectures in Agile and/or SAFe delivery environments.
- Experience working in UK secure environments and on classified MOD systems.
- Ability to mentor, coach and provide technical thought leadership across an architecture or engineering community.
- Current UK MOD DV clearance.
- Desirable: Industry certifications such as TOGAF, ArchiMate or recognised architecture qualifications.
- Desirable: Experience contributing to technology roadmaps and enterprise-level strategy.
- Desirable: Knowledge of service design, operational transformation and digital modernisation.
- Desirable: Exposure to cloud-native, DevSecOps and automation approaches.
- Desirable: Experience presenting at technical boards, customer forums or industry conferences.
- Ability to operate as a recognised technical authority, influence technical strategy and complex architecture decisions, and communicate confidently with senior technical, customer and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for solution design across large-scale, multi-project programmes.
- Define and evolve architectures that balance customer requirements, enterprise principles and secure-by-design standards.
- Shape divisional and line-of-business technology roadmaps, identifying opportunities for innovation and technology insertion.
- Lead technical reviews, trade-off studies and risk assessments for major architectural decisions.
- Work with senior technical and business stakeholders to influence strategy and delivery.
- Mentor and coach Solutions Architects and Engineers, helping build capability across the wider architecture community.
- Represent our organisation at senior customer forums, technical boards and industry events.
- Support business-winning activity, including solution strategy, bids and proposal development.

We are recruiting a Senior Solutions Architect for a high-profile, security-critical defence programme in Bristol. The role is hybrid and offered as a 12-month rolling contract, inside IR35, at £100–£107 per hour. You will work with experienced engineering and architecture teams, take technical ownership across complex programmes, and influence major design decisions, technical strategy and future technology capabilities in a highly regulated environment. We welcome candidates with strong Solutions Architecture experience and a positive, collaborative attitude, even if they do not meet every desirable criterion.
