Trading Operations Analyst - B2B
Job description
Trading Operations Analyst - B2B
Horse and Greyhound racing | Trading Operations | UK Based
About Us
Pythia Sports is a fast-growing technology company, focussing on predictive modelling within sports.
At the core of our B2B offering is a Managed Trading Service: we run the full trading operation on behalf of bookmakers and platform providers. We generate our own odds using proprietary pricing models, set and manage margin, handle customer profiling and staking decisions, and take responsibility for liability and risk management across the book. In short, our clients rely on us to make the trading decisions that protect and grow their margins - across horse racing and greyhound racing. Alongside this we provide the underlying data, odds feeds and risk management tooling that power those services.
While we operate as their racing trading function, we work hand-in-hand with our clients' wider sportsbook trading teams - combining our racing expertise with their full view of customer activity across the book to deliver excellence together.
Our philosophy is to deliver solutions that are more innovative, more accurate or more efficient than those already in the market, adding measurable value to our clients.
Based in London Victoria, we’re working to a hybrid work-from-home/office model with regular time in the office. We offer private health and dental insurance, a cycle to work scheme, enhanced parental leave, enhanced sick pay, increased holiday allowance and plenty of career development opportunities.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, live operations role at the centre of our racing service. You will be one of the people our operator partners rely on while racing is running: handling their requests, monitoring our services and data feeds, making trading interventions when markets need them, and making sure that when something goes wrong it is picked up quickly and routed to the right place.
The role covers both horse racing and greyhound racing, including live operational support for the greyhound stadia that use our racecourse app. You will also work alongside our proprietary pricing models and increasingly automated trading tools, helping identify where technology, AI and automation can improve the way we operate.
The role runs on a shift rota across the live racing day, with a weighting towards evenings and weekends, when much of the racing calendar runs.
You will report to the Head of Trading and work day to day with the wider trading and operations team. As our B2B operation grows, there will be plenty of scope to broaden the role across trading, risk, client management, tooling and product.
Responsibilities
Client Requests and Support
- Action operator requests through our Admin console accurately and promptly, including market, pricing and account-level changes.
- Respond to client queries across Slack, Microsoft Teams and Jira Service Management, keeping tickets updated and clients informed until each issue is closed.
- Be a reliable, professional first point of contact for operator partners during live racing.
Live Trading and Service Monitoring
- Monitor live horse and greyhound racing markets and make trading interventions where necessary, such as suspending, adjusting or settling markets.
- Act on information that affects markets as it happens, including non-runners, reserves, withdrawals, delays and abandonments.
- Monitor key racing data and pricing feeds, identifying missing, delayed or incorrect information before it impacts clients wherever possible.
- Monitor pricing and model outputs for unusual behaviour or discrepancies and investigate or escalate where appropriate.
- Flag pricing or liability concerns to the Head of Trading quickly and clearly.
Greyhound Stadia Operations
- Provide live operational support to greyhound stadia using our racecourse app, from first race to last.
- Resolve stadium-side issues where you can, and know exactly who to call when you can’t.
- Help build and maintain the playbooks that keep stadia operations consistent from shift to shift.
Incident Escalation
- Triage issues as they arise and resolve what can be fixed directly.
- Escalate anything that can’t, internally to trading, engineering and product, and externally to data suppliers and other partners, with a clear account of the problem and its impact.
- Follow escalated issues through to resolution and make sure affected clients are kept updated.
- Take part in the on-call rota for out-of-hours operator support.
Process and Handover
- Keep accurate shift logs and give clean handovers so nothing is lost between shifts.
- Suggest improvements to tooling, processes and playbooks based on what you see on the front line.
- Look for opportunities to remove repetitive manual work through better tooling, automation and AI.
- Contribute to a culture of high standards and continuous improvement, challenging inefficient processes and suggesting better ways of working.
The Person
You will have a strong working knowledge of racing. You understand how racing markets work, what happens to a book when a race is delayed or a runner is withdrawn, and why speed and accuracy matter when they do.
Experience across both horse and greyhound racing would be ideal, but deep experience in one combined with the ability and willingness to learn the other quickly is equally valuable.
You stay calm when several things go wrong at once and communicate clearly with clients, colleagues and partners, both in writing and by phone.
You will take ownership. When you pick something up, you see it through or hand it on cleanly, and you notice when a process isn’t working and say so.
You don’t need to be a developer, but you should be comfortable working with technology and curious about how systems, data feeds and trading tools fit together.
Essential
- Strong working knowledge of horse racing and/or greyhound racing, including racing markets and settlement.
- Experience in a trading, trading operations or customer-facing operations role within betting, ideally B2B.
- Confidence handling live issues and client queries under time pressure.
- Clear written and verbal communication across Slack, Teams and ticketing tools.
- Comfortable using technology and learning new systems and tools.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a regular rota.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of both horse racing and greyhound racing.
- Experience with Jira Service Management or a similar ticketing system.
- Exposure to greyhound stadia or racecourse operations.
- Familiarity with sportsbook back-office or admin tooling.
- Familiarity with APIs, data feeds, monitoring tools or basic technical troubleshooting.
- An interest in AI and automation, particularly using modern tools to improve processes, analyse problems and remove repetitive manual work.
- Experience using AI tools in a professional environment would be useful, but curiosity and willingness to use them effectively is more important.
