About the Role

As a Software Engineering Manager for ROI Delivery, you will lead a team responsible for the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of one of Datavant's most business-critical platforms. ROI Delivery powers critical healthcare workflows that enable providers to securely and efficiently fulfill medical record requests across the United States.

This role goes beyond building new features. You will lead a team that owns services end-to-end, balancing delivery of new capabilities with operational excellence, production support, and continuous improvement. You will partner closely with Product, Operations, Customer Success, and Support teams to ensure our systems remain reliable, performant, and responsive to customer needs.

We are looking for a leader who thrives in complex production environments, enjoys solving challenging operational problems, and is passionate about building high-performing engineering teams that take ownership of customer outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop a team responsible for the design, delivery, reliability, and support of ROI Delivery systems.
  • Coach, mentor, and support engineers through regular feedback, career development, and technical leadership.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the delivery of new platform capabilities while reducing technical debt and operational risk.
  • Lead incident response efforts, including triage, stakeholder coordination, root cause analysis, remediation planning, and post-incident reviews.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for high-severity production and customer-impacting issues.
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Customer Success, and Support teams to investigate and resolve complex customer issues.
  • Establish and continuously improve operational practices, including observability, monitoring, alerting, runbooks, service ownership, and on-call readiness.
  • Lead cross-functional investigations spanning applications, databases, integrations, infrastructure, and business processes.
  • Identify recurring operational challenges and prioritize engineering investments that improve system stability, scalability, and supportability.
  • Define and improve key operational metrics, including availability, reliability, incident volume, and mean time to resolution (MTTR).
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to shape team priorities, technical strategy, and long-term platform investments.

What You Need to Succeed

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams that own both software delivery and production operations.
  • Proven success leading teams through complex production incidents and driving effective root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
  • Strong technical background across distributed systems, databases, integrations, and cloud-based applications.
  • Experience managing incident response processes and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders during customer-impacting events.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess production issues quickly, communicate clearly under pressure, and drive teams toward resolution.
  • Experience improving operational metrics such as availability, reliability, MTTR, and incident reduction.
  • Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, alerting, service ownership, and operational support best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues for engineering teams, business stakeholders, executives, and customer-facing teams.
  • Experience balancing feature delivery, technical debt reduction, operational improvements, and long-term platform investments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with healthcare data workflows, document delivery platforms, records management systems, or healthcare interoperability solutions.
  • Experience leading teams that support customer-facing, business-critical platforms in highly regulated environments.
  • Experience operating across both legacy systems and modern cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering, SRE practices, and modern operational excellence frameworks.
