Under immediate supervision, the Library Page performs routine library clerical work. The essential functions assigned to this class include: shelving and sorting books and other library materials according to the Dewey Decimal or other library classification system, by alphabetical, chronological or subject order; scanning barcodes, stamping, security taping, labeling, reinforcing bindings; performing minor book repair by replacing mylar covers, barcodes, and spine labels; performing basic services within the integrated library systems (ILS) software to create and access customer accounts and performing tasks such as, library applications processing, verification of application information, check/in – check/out of physical and digital materials; locating and retrieving books and other materials as directed; monitoring and maintaining shelves; maintaining reading areas, library collections, and shelving and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner; shifting and rearranging materials; sorting and routing daily mail; unpacking deliveries of materials and entering invoice information into the ILS; answering and screening phone calls and emails; providing information in person, by phone or email to other staff and/or the public regarding library services or facilities; using office machines and computers, and maintaining personal library email account; performing physical processing of library materials; picking up and delivering library materials and transporting them between departments. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination)

OR

Experience:
Six (6) months (1000 hours) of clerical or customer service experience.

Substitution:
Completion of the San Francisco Human Services Agency’s Career Pathway Clerical Administrative Program will substitute for the minimum qualifications listed above.

Verification/proof of education, experience, or certificate is required at time of filing application.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

Condition of Employment:
In addition to the minimum qualifications listed above, applicants who are selected for a position must meet the following conditions:

1. Ability to lift boxes/bins weighing up to 30 lbs.

2. Ability to move loaded carts weighing up to 250 lbs.

Nature of Work:
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this classification include the ability to sustain physical effort involving considerable amounts of pushing and pulling library book carts and other library equipment, packing and unpacking library materials standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting and twisting to perform duties associated with daily tasks.

Some positions may require the ability to lift and/or move with assistance objects weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

Notes:
Some positions in this class are subject to irregular work schedules and may require evening and/or weekend work; and require constant public contact. Positions in this classification may be required to work at various locations within the Library system.

Verification of Education: Qualifying education must be verified by copy of diploma or transcripts showing coursework completed and diploma/degree awarded. Verification of Experience: Qualifying experience must be on the employer’s business letterhead, show the applicant’s name, dates of service, job title(s), duties actually performed for each position, and must be signed by the employer. If the qualifying experience was performed on a part-time or as-needed basis, the total number of hours worked or average hours worked per week must also be included. Qualifying experience may be verified by performance evaluations showing duties performed. City and County employees will receive credit for the duties of the class to which appointed. Credit for experience obtained outside of the employee's class will only be allowed if recorded in accordance with the provisions of Civil Service Commission Rules.

Verification of Certificate: Verification of completion from the San Francisco Human Services Agency’s Career Pathway Clerical Administrative Program must be verified by copy of the certificate of completion. The certificate must clearly state that 3602 Library Page is included in the list of City classes.

A resume is not sufficient verification of qualifying experience.
