Location: Hyde Park

The Human Resources Department has an opening for an Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant who will provide direct patient care services and clerical duties within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures.

Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant – Job Summary

In this role, and under direct supervision of a nurse practitioner or physician, the Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant will perform a wide variety of patient care services and clerical duties. The OM Clinical Assistant will be responsible for direct patient care, interact with clinicians, and utilize computer systems to access and update information.

Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant – Essential functions/Responsibilities

  • Performs any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the nurse practitioner or physician within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for urine drug screening, visual testing, phlebotomy, breathe alcohol testing, immunizations and PPD testing.
  • Clinical duties include rooming patients, vital signs, escorting patients, setting up exam room for procedures, documentation of care in the UCOM EHR, stocking and maintaining supplies and forms.
  • Other clinic duties include urine drug screening, Snellen and Titmus vision testing, phlebotomy, breath alcohol testing, administration of immunizations, PPD testing, respiratory fit testing, (qualitative and quantitative), spirometry testing, Morgan lens eye irrigations, nasopharyngeal cultures, and participation and performance of these duties at off-site locations.
  • Clerical responsibilities include front and back desk reception work: answering phones, registering patients, scheduling appointments, initial triage of employees reporting injuries or illnesses, verification of payer/accepting payments; charge entry and billing in Epic, utilization of other computer systems including ImageNow, Sunquest, Quest and CRl, send/receive medical records and record scanning.

Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant – Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of health care experience preferred.
  • Job specific skills include keyboarding at 35 wpm.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interacting with courtesy, tact and respect.
  • Accurate data entry of employee health data, registration, and billing.
  • Ability to prioritize work and make independent decisions.
  • Possess a strong customer service orientation and a commitment to excellence, accuracy, cooperation and teamwork.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, support and cooperation when changes occur at the clinical level.
  • Maintain an organized work environment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions and respond appropriately to constructive feedback.
  • Participates in a changing environment by being supportive and cooperative with changes at the clinic leave.

Occupational Medicine Clinical Assistant – Licenses/Certifications

  • Completion of a certified program for medical assistants (CMA)
  • CPR Certification
  • Certification in breath alcohol testing, urine drug screening, and spirometry a plus
