PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The CTE/College and Career Readiness Coordinator will advocate and support all students in their academic, college, and career development. This will be accomplished through a variety of approaches including, but not limited to, group processing, individual consultation and classroom guidance in order to facilitate and support a student in reaching their maximum potential. Support and assistance will be provided to students, parents, faculty and the community concerning college readiness, career pathways and scholarship information toward application, enrollment, and placement in postsecondary opportunities. The CCC will assist students regarding career awareness, planning, and decision making utilizing interest and aptitude assessments and provide job placement activities. When appropriate, seek out and research competitive CTE and/or College and Career grant opportunities that support the district’s vision and mission for CTE. Lastly, the CCC provides information and opportunities about scholarships, occupations, education, and labor market trends to assist students in making informed educational and occupational choices.

- School Counselor Certification (Preferred)
- The candidate must have a satisfactory outcome from a fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
Special Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge and experience with career assessment tools, labor market information, career and technical education programs, and business and industry workforce needs. Ability to adjust and modify program implementation to best serve students, evidenced in positive social, emotional, academic, and career development. Ability to clearly articulate and discuss the program action plans with the district and school administrator. Knowledge of high school graduation plans and CTE procedures, student appraisal and career development. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Coordinate and facilitate presentations, student workshops, parent meetings, and college and career awareness activities that promote CHS CTE/college and career pathways.- Host and facilitate workshops focused on college and career readiness topics.
Support students in completing college applications and college essays and understanding different types and aspects of financial aid.
Connect graduating seniors with resources at their post secondary institution to support college readiness.
- Assist in education of students via classroom presentations, one-on-one interactions, and school wide support.
Assist in coordinating various college events, workshops, field trips and tours with fellow counselors off site for high school students.
Facilitate a yearly mock interview for graduating senior class.
- Maintain a data dashboard to monitor College and Career Readiness status of all high school students.
- Guide students through academic and career exploration activities promoting high school and post secondary readiness.
- Develop student and family understanding of college and career options as well as pathways to high school and post secondary success.
Work with the school’s administration, staff, and faculty to promote CHS college and career pathways.
Facilitate various industry tours/visits for high school students.
Obtain, organize, file and display guidance materials; catalog and prepare for use by students; maintain displays and bulletin boards.
Maintain a current inventory of CTE equipment and materials; assist in determining purchase priorities.
Develop and maintain a current and comprehensive occupational library including information on careers and career clusters, employment prospects and trends and employment requirements and opportunities; obtain and circulate current college catalogs.
Maintains a follow-up system for at least one year for the purpose of data monitoring of success.
- Mentors and assists students with preparation activities for job placement.
- Works with school administrators, staff, local agencies, governmental bodies, and businesses to foster coordination of services and integration with other local educational entities.
- Work with CISD Public Relations Department to design brochures or other informational documents.
- Develops audio-visual presentations as necessary.
- Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
- Attend meetings, conferences and seminars regarding career trends, college entrance and financial aid.
- Direct the activities of college and career readiness and CTE including presentations, assessments, practice test, research, occupational/educational planning, and lessons employability skills and preparation.
- Participate on the CTE leadership team to support the mission and vision of the district CTE department.
- Promote the district wide post secondary readiness initiative including developing, promoting, and monitoring dual credit, advanced classes, and industry certifications.
- Provide statistical information necessary for required reports and grants including PEIMS CTE coding, Perkins effectiveness reports, etc.
- Implement motivational concepts to encourage and motivate students.
- Uphold ethical and professional standards as set forth.
- Compile, maintain and submit monthly logs/reports, data summaries, and CTE calendars in order to implement and evaluate program efficiency.
- Communicate the availability of scholarship and assistance opportunities to all students.
- Develop and present an annual summary of scholarship application success detailing local, state, foundation, and university awards.
- Track and provide support to all students involved in district scholarship success initiatives.
- Conduct advanced academic seminars for middle school students and parents.
- Educate and communicate district programs available: PAP, AP and Dual Credit.
- Coordinate, cooperate and expose all K-12 counselors on college and career scholarship and post secondary opportunities.
- Coordinate and collaborate to develop a CTE/College and Career Readiness district handbook.
- Seek out and participate in college and career professional development programs.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices.
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance.
- Seek out grant funded opportunities.
- Collaborate to develop a competitive grant process guidebook for the district.
- Direct the coordination, planning, and implementation of competitive grants for the CTE/College and Career Readiness Department.
- Write and submit grant proposals to appropriate funding sources and requested supporting data.
- Assure all grant applications are aligned with the district’s mission and appropriate school improvement plans.
- Assure all required evaluation components are met.
- Search for state, federal or private funding.
- Work with staff in developing grant applications to meet needs of programs.
- Ensure all grants conform to district policy/guidelines.
