Founded in 2018, Girls Inc. of Greater Miami is part of a national network committed to empowering girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Our free after-school programming serves elementary and middle school students across multiple sites, focusing on Life Skills, STEM, literacy, art, and leadership.
Position Overview
Girls Inc. of Greater Miami is seeking a passionate, self-motivated, skilled individual to lead our After-School Debate Club (Bold Voices) for girls in 6th-8th. This program aims to build confidence, critical thinking, leadership and academic success in students through structured programming in Speech and Debate topics. The Debate Coach will play a key role in creating a supportive environment where students develop confidence, research and analyze information, articulate their ideas, and respectfully engage diverse perspectives. This is a contractor position.
Hours and Schedules
This club meets twice a week after school, from 4:00 to 5:30pm, with the exception of days that students are not in school (holiday breaks, Teacher Planning days, etc.) Occasional weekends are required, including for events and training. Dates will be shared in advance. This position begins in September and concludes in May, with the goal of getting girls to a weekend-long debate tournament in April (dates and details TBD).
Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Deliver a pre-designed curriculum with fidelity while adapting to student needs and interests.
- Program Facilitation: Facilitate engaging and interactive lessons that promote student interaction and connection, and a warm and supportive program environment.
- Content Expertise: Participate in training and use supplemental materials to strengthen knowledge of speech and debate content
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with site staff, families, and the Program Director regarding program updates, challenges, and successes.
- Logistics and Preparation: Prepare all materials and resources in advance, including digital tools, visual aids, and other supplies.
Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working with students in middle or high school
- Passion for working with middle school girls and supporting their academic and personal growth
- Strong communication, analytical, facilitation, and classroom management skills with youth audiences
- Ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment for diverse learners
- Organized and prepared, with comfort using technology for research, presentations, and debate activities
- Background or interest in English, literature, public speaking, debate, or education preferred, but not required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to school sites and training locations for the full academic year
- Bilingual (Spanish or Haitian Creole) a plus
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Level 2 Background Screening
