Gallery Internship — Nicolas Auvray Gallery
Location: Chelsea, New York City (West 23rd Street)
Schedule: Part-time, 3 days per week (minimum 24 hours/week)
Duration: Minimum 4 months (Start date flexible; future periods considered)
Compensation: university credit offered and reference.
Dates: Starting in August or September 2025 and for a minimum of 4 months
About the Gallery:
Nicolas Auvray Gallery is a contemporary and modern art gallery located in Chelsea, NY, showcasing a curated selection of photography, painting, and sculpture. As a young and growing gallery, we offer an immersive internship opportunity for candidates eager to gain experience across many facets of gallery operations.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented Gallery Intern to support daily operations, artist relations, and exhibitions. This in-person role will expose the intern to a broad spectrum of tasks, including client relations, inventory management, marketing, and event coordination. A strong commitment to the full duration of the internship is expected to ensure a meaningful learning experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Catalog and manage artwork inventory.
- Assist with client and prospect communications.
- Maintain and update the gallery website and select artists' websites.
- Support content creation for social media and assist in implementing growth strategies in coordination with the social media manager.
- Participate in art fair preparation and assist during fairs and gallery events.
- Assist with exhibitions, including installation, opening receptions, and artist relations.
- Coordinate with designers and interior architects.
- Conduct research for gallery development and business opportunities.
- General gallery operations: opening/closing, space maintenance, and logistical support.
- Assist with art handling, packing, unpacking, and installation.
Desired Profile:
- Strong interest in contemporary art and the art market.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc.).
- Willingness to assist with both administrative and physical tasks.
- Professional, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar tools is a plus.
- Background in art history, fine arts, or photography recommended but not required.
- Minimum two years of college or equivalent education.
Commitment:
- Minimum of 3 days per week (24 hours total) for at least 4 months.
- Must be able to work on-site at the Chelsea gallery location.
Job Type: Internship
Pay: $1.00 - $2.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 24 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
