The Assistant Pharmacy Buyer shall assist the Pharmacy Buyer to procure, receive, and administer the inventory of controlled pharmaceuticals, and will communicate shortages of medications or changes in stock availability to appropriate Pharmacy staff. Additionally, this individual shall receive and verify shipments from vendors and suppliers. The Assistant will maintain appropriate inventory levels of pharmaceuticals and supplies, and will control inventory to meet established budgetary constraints. This individual will coordinate disposal of all expired medication and maintain invoicing for all pharmaceutical and supply accounts. The Buyer will prepare department for annual inventory which includes updating shelf labels, inventory supply forms, and databases. This individual will carry out rules and regulations pertaining to the professional policies of the department and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. The Assistant Pharmacy Buyer shall have completed the Pharmacy Technician career ladder. The Assistant Buyer will be tasked to train new staff, and cross train in two key functional areas. This individual shall be able to cover multiple roles within the pharmacy practice setting as needed [example functional areas: buyer, biller, clerk, inventory management, pharmacy technology, Meds-to-Bed program, medication history collection, controlled substance and other compliance activities]. Additionally, the Assistant Buyer shall demonstrate expert and lead in specialty area such as sterile compounding, purchasing, pharmacy technology, controlled substance analytics, medication safety compliance or specialty pharmacy practice. This position may have additional duties assigned as needed.
- High school graduate or equivalent GED required, and Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.
- Prefer at least 10 years of relevant Pharmacy Technician experience for practice setting.
- License / Certification required: Current registration with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy and CPhT certification required.
- 340B advanced training certificate required, if applicable.

- Knowledge of HIPAA standards and regulations
- Ability to accurately type and perform assigned computer duties
- Proficient in needed pharmaceutical calculations, the metric system and if applicable, cash register use
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and competency with Microsoft Outlook for email communication
- Competent with pharmacy systems and related technology and equipment for practice setting
