Aviation Logistics Manager
Job description
The Aviation Logistics Manager leads the movement, handling, and documentation of aircraft components, materials and supporting equipment supporting General MRO Aerospace’s repair operations and customer commitments. This role oversees shipping and receiving, domestic and international transportation, customs coordination, packaging, and logistics processes.
The manager works closely with Customer Support, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, and Finance to ensure shipments are accurate, properly documented, handled with care, and delivered on time. The role supports compliance with applicable aviation, customs, dangerous goods, and export requirements.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities
- Manage daily inbound and outbound shipments of aircraft components, repair orders, materials, tooling, and equipment.
- Oversee shipping and receiving activities, including workload planning, staffing, training, and performance.
- Select and manage carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, and other logistics providers.
- Coordinate domestic and international transportation, including urgent and AOG shipments.
- Prepare and review shipping documents, commercial invoices, packing lists, customs paperwork, and shipment records.
- Coordinate customs clearance, import/export activity, and temporary import or bond requirements with brokers and customers.
- Ensure components are packaged, identified, protected, and shipped in accordance with customer, carrier, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain shipment tracking and proactively communicate delays, exceptions, damages, or documentation issues to internal teams and customers.
- Establish and maintain procedures for receiving, inspection handoff, storage, packaging, shipment release, and proof of delivery.
- Coordinate with Quality to maintain required records and support traceability for aviation components and materials.
- Ensure personnel are trained on applicable shipping requirements, including hazardous materials or dangerous goods handling when relevant to their duties.
- Monitor logistics costs, carrier performance, delivery timelines, and service levels; identify opportunities to improve cost, speed, and reliability.
- Resolve shipment discrepancies, shortages, damage claims, and carrier performance issues.
- Maintain organized and accurate logistics records in the company’s business systems, including Quantum Control.
- Support internal, customer, regulatory, and certification audits related to logistics and shipping activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- At least five years of logistics, shipping and receiving, or transportation experience; aviation or aerospace experience preferred.
- At least two years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- Experience coordinating international shipments, customs clearance, and freight forwarders.
- Familiarity with aviation component handling, repair order documentation, and traceability requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable shipping, customs, and hazardous materials or dangerous goods requirements.
- Experience using an ERP or MRO management system; Quantum Control experience is an advantage.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and shipment tracking systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to time-sensitive customer and AOG requirements.
Work Environment and Physical
Requirements
This position works in an office and warehouse environment and may require regular movement between work areas. The role may involve standing, walking, lifting or moving packages, and using material handling equipment, subject to company safety requirements.
