Job Title: Building Automation Controls Technician (Commercial Construction)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Building Automation Controls (BAS) Technician to join our dynamic team, specializing in commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in installing, wiring, and troubleshooting low-voltage control systems for HVAC and building automation in both new and retrofit commercial environments.
This field-based role involves working directly on active job sites in collaboration with project managers, electricians, HVAC technicians, and other trades to bring complex building systems to life. If you're a technician who takes pride in doing things right the first time, thrives in fast-paced construction settings, and enjoys problem-solving, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test low-voltage wiring and control devices for BAS/HVAC systems in commercial buildings.
- Mount and wire DDC controllers, actuators, sensors, relays, and panels per design documents and wiring diagrams.
- Assist in system startup, testing, and commissioning—verifying signal integrity, confirming sequences of operation, and supporting functional testing.
- Read and interpret mechanical plans, electrical schematics, and control submittals to ensure accurate installations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to control wiring, sensor functionality, and communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus).
- Coordinate closely with project managers, foremen, and subcontractors to align work with project timelines and site readiness.
- Accurately document redlines, field modifications, and as-built changes for project closeout and future reference.
- Maintain job site safety and cleanliness while adhering to all OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a BAS Controls Technician, HVAC Controls Installer, or similar role in the commercial construction industry.
- Proficient in working with DDC systems and platforms such as Delta Controls, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, Distech, or equivalent.
- In-depth understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and their interaction with building automation controls.
- Strong ability to interpret construction plans, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and other low-voltage test instruments.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar tools for markups and documentation (a plus).
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team on active job sites.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
