A Behavioral Health Liaison is responsible for

coordination and facilitating professional collaboration between Optum and the Maryland Department of Health, (MDH) functioning as an inter/intra-agency liaison and providing project management and operational support throughout program internally.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical, systems and operations coordination between Optum and MDH related to ongoing and new Behavioral Health initiatives.

  • Participate in meetings at MDH and the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and ensure Optum Maryland leadership are up to date on issues and initiatives discussed.

  • Keep track of progress and issues that arise when implementing new initiatives and provide regular updates to MDH and Optum

  • Provide project management oversight on new initiatives related to Maryland ASO program.

  • Report and discuss key metrics, strategic progress, key challenges and mitigations plans and other topics as needed

  • Facilitate meetings, define and track activities, follow up on due items, provide status

  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop solutions

  • Communicate client needs to internal teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Project management experience

  • 2+ years’ experience in behavioral health and with substance abuse disorders

  • Experience implementing new programs

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Maryland residence with the ability to travel locally as needed for onsite client meetings (up to 50% of the time)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Marriage or Family Counseling; OR Licensed Ph.D.; OR Registered Nurse with psychiatric experience

  • ASO management, including mental health and substance use disorders

  • Understanding of the Maryland Behavioral Health system of care, the services available, and the criteria for receiving services
