Under the general direction of the CEA, of the Financial Operations Bureau (FOB), the Business Taxes Administrator (BTA) III, Branch Administrator, is responsible for compliance and audit functions in the Local Revenue Branch (LRB). The BTA III will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the activities of the LRB, comprised of a variety of subordinate supervisors and team members consisting of specialists, auditors, and technical team members. The BTA III oversees team members that examine and verify, and/or adjust the sales and use tax return reporting allocation of state administered sales and use taxes. This includes, local county, city, and transaction taxes, to ensure that the distribution of these taxes to local governments is accurate, timely, and in compliance with the contracts for administering the taxes between the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) and local jurisdictions, as well as in compliance with the sales and use tax and transactions tax laws administered by the CDTFA. The BTA III is responsible for the administration of newly enacted transactions and use taxes and ensuring contracts and resolutions, as required, are obtained and in compliance with laws and rules for the CDTFA to administer such taxes. BTA III acts as primary liaison with jurisdictions, consultants and CDTFA team members, served by the local and district taxes programs and is the primary point of contact for jurisdictional related sensitive issues. The position acts for the CEA, FOB, in their absence.
This position provides hybrid telework opportunities, with employees required to work in-person at least two days per week. Beginning July 1, 2025, all employees will be required to work in-person at least four days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25.
