Overview
Build Coffee & Books is a community-minded café, bookstore, and event space rooted in radical hospitality and collective care. We're looking for a thoughtful and organized person to join our team in a new role supporting two core parts of our business: catering & events and shop supply coordination.
This role is ideal for someone who’s energized by logistics, enjoys connecting with people, and values the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a community-centered space like Build running smoothly. You'll be the point of contact for all catering and rental inquiries, help bring events to life, and collaborate with the General Manager to track and fulfill supply needs each week.
Please note a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for this role. You will be reimbursed for mileage.
Responsibilities
Catering & Events
- Serve as the primary contact for catering and event rental inquiries
- Work with team to coordinate scheduling, menu options, pricing, and day-of logistics
- Communicate clearly with staff about upcoming events and shop needs
- Communicate clearly with Chef about catering needs and planning
- Assist with on-site event preparation and support, including setup and breakdown (some evenings/weekends required)
- Maintain documentation and templates related to catering/event offerings
Supply Coordination
- Work with the general manager, coffee lead, and chef to manage weekly café supply lists
- Shop for or pick up café and event supplies (e.g., groceries, retail items, cleaning products) and communicate any changes to staff as needed
- Ensure items are restocked, organized, and inventoried across storage locations
- Track and organize receipts and assist with basic expense reporting

- Other duties as assigned, including register duties as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to excellence in customer service and engaging Build’s community and catering clients with flexibility and generosity
- Friendly, responsive and community-centered approach
- 1–2 years experience in event coordination, food service, catering, hospitality or similar setting required
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable moving throughout the space and running errands
- Experience with email, Google Drive and spreadsheets
- Self-directed and collaborative, with openness to feedback and learning
- Interest in supporting Build’s mission to foster nourishment, justice and imagination
- Barista or bookselling experience is a plus, but not required
