Description
The Medical Assistant serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, providing essential clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant performs in a manner consistent with the mission, policies, and initiatives of MN Women's Care, while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
Essential Functions and Qualifications
* Punctuality and adherence to the schedule are a must.
* Completion of the Medical Assistant program from an accredited institute.
* Medical Assistant program diploma.
* Certification is required (CMA, RMA, CCMA)
* Phlebotomy Experience (Comfortable with drawing blood)
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
* Experience with Sterile Processing
* Ability to lift 15 pounds.
* Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
* Ability to work in an upright, standing position for extended periods.
* Work is performed in a medical office setting using standard medical equipment. The risk of exposure to blood and body fluids is present.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
* Prepares instruments, equipment, and materials for patient care and maintains exam rooms as aseptic, neat, and well-stocked.
* Obtains and documents complete patient data in a timely and accurate manner.
* Prepares patients for exams and assists the provider with exams, tests, and procedures as needed.
* Provides patients with instructions in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate.
* Performs basic procedures as ordered by the provider and within the scope of practice.
* Ensure charges are submitted promptly.
* Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care.
* Processes prescriptions as directed by the provider.
* Create all necessary work, school, and insurance letters for patients as requested.
* Complete FMLA paperwork for patients as requested.
* Obtain records and ROIs for patients transferring to MNWC for care. Call referring clinics for urgent requests.
* Fax urgent records as requested.
* Communicates with patients about concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider.
* Perform and comply with quality control measures.
* Completes care team calls promptly and assist with other care teams as needed.
* Collect and process in-house lab specimens and specimens for outside lab companies.
* Accurately enter lab orders into EHR as directed by the provider and scan to patient chart.
* Accurately document lab results in the lab logbook and EHR immediately.
* Performing QC on in-house labs (urinalysis and UPT)
* Maintain accurate supply inventory and document when items must be reordered.
* Ability to prioritize & respond quickly to changing & fast-paced environment.
* Assist in monitoring material counts and levels.
* Maintain cleanliness and stocking of entire clinic.
* Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments. Assemble, store, and distribute instruments.
* Ability to operate equipment to disinfect/decontaminate clinical instruments and medical devices.
* Inspecting instruments and equipment for signs of damage, wear, and tear.
* Unpacking, checking, and stocking new supplies
* Maintain accurate sterilization records.
* Monitor temp and humidity conditions within storage and work areas.
* Complete and log routine maintenance and cleaning of sterilizing equipment and machines.
* Sterilize items that have not been used for three or more months
* Other clinical duties as assigned by your supervisor
