Overview
The Compliance Officer performs a variety of compliance, investigative and enforcement activities for the Recycling/Solid Waste Department. The position is responsible for implementing and enforcing the Lawrence County Municipal Waste Management Ordinance, accompanying Rules and Regulations, and Department Policies/Procedures. Issues citations and ensures waste flow control practices are in accordance. with the Lawrence County Solid Waste Management Plan.
Will be responsible for educating the public and private sector as to proper solid waste management practices and recycling opportunities as well as provide assistance with various projects such as illegal dumpsite cleanups. the work is performed independently.
This position is responsible for all aspects of implementing and enforcing the Lawrence County Municipal Waste Management Ordinance and Rules and Regulations. They will be required to become knowledgeable of municipal waste, recycling, and environmental laws, practices, technologies, procedures, issues, etc..
Duties
- Physical Exertion- In addition to our own programming, the Department works with a variety of nonprofit and related agencies on the cleanup of illegally dumped materials and collections for had to dispose materials. This includes moving and lifting heavy items such as tires, appliances, and televisions.
- The ability to walk and climb over rough terrain in all weather conditions to investigate complaints about open dumping.
- Weekend and evening Work.
- Confidence with Public Speaking. Conducts presentations, meetings, and trainings t local, state and national levels. Must be comfortable in court room settings in enforcement work with police on scattering rubbish/open dumping violations.
- Travel-Mostly day trips, some overnights.
- Independent Project Management, Adaptability, and the Ability to Multi Task efficiently.
- Computer and Software Proficiency.
- Excellent People Skills.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of regulations pertaining to heavy equipment operation, including garbage truck and loader operation.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required during inspections or audits.
- Proficiency in operating various types of heavy machinery safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with sanitation practices in relation to equipment maintenance.
- Experience with forklift operation is a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and management.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively.
