HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
As the Controller for the Varsity Performing Arts (VPA) Business Unit, you will be an essential partner to the VPA leadership team, including the leaders of the Stanbury Uniforms, Director’s Showcase International (DSI), and SA Feather businesses. As the finance business partner for the VPA business unit, you will be responsible for the full value chain, from sales to production and distribution of apparel and accessories for the bands across the United States. You will provide financial expertise and insights to drive effective business planning and operational excellence, key focus areas for Varsity Spirit. You will play a transformational role in shaping and modernizing how the finance function drives value for the company and for our customers.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Lead, engage, and motivate the VPA finance team to provide financial transparency, improve operational efficiency, and drive profitable growth, through partnership with their business counterparts.
Lead the initiative to optimize and standardize inventory control processes, including cycle counting. Ensure proper valuation of inventory, in collaboration with the Varsity Spirit and Varsity Brands controller community and operations leaders.
Lead monthly/quarterly/annual budgeting and forecasting of all VPA sales, supply chain operations, and critical support functions, in partnership with FP&A.
Responsible for a clean and timely monthly financial close process of the VPA business unit, including audit support.
Partner with VPA leadership team in continuing to harmonize the VPA go-to-market strategy, with KPI’s designed to measure and drive optimal outcomes.
Oversee cost optimization initiatives, and facilitate the explanation of cost performance versus targets, effectively communicating key insights to ensure product cost and operating cost targets are achieved.
Provide leadership and support to the VPA finance team, including the Stanbury finance team and two VPA financial analysts.
In partnership with the Apparel finance team, develop a division-wide product costing process and methodology to provide better insights to product profitability and operational performance.
As part of the Sales & Operations Planning process, support VPA sales and operations leadership to support development of annual sales budgets and monthly sales forecasts, providing useful insight to operational capacities/capabilities/issues.
Ensure accurate and timely commissions calculations and reporting for Stanbury sales representatives.
Assist with the Varsity Spirit cash flow analysis and Asset Based Loan (ABL) submissions, specifically related to inventory, AR, AP, capital projects, etc.
Drive the adoption and proficient use of technology such as Microsoft BI and Excel to manipulate data from multiple sources into meaningful analysis and insights for sales and operations leadership to act upon.
Supervisory Responsibility
Direct management of a plant controller, plant finance team, and two financial analysts
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to multi-task
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of GAAP
Financial Analytical Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
Education / Certifications Required:
10+ years of experience in an Accounting, Finance or related field
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or other business discipline
Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment required
MBA, CMA, CPA, Lean/6-sigma certification highly preferred
ERP enhancement or implementation experience a plus
Experience leading people and teams

Largely a sedentary role with some filing requiring the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.
