JOB TITLE Counselor Project BASIC
SUMMARY:
Provides assessment, advocacy, referral, early intervening, counseling, training and other identified support to individuals within designated Project BASIC sites.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or mental health related required. Master’s degree preferred.
Licensure: Must possess or obtain highest level of licensure applicable to degree.
Certification: Must possess or obtain highest level of certification applicable to degree.
Experience: Experience in public school system and/or counseling preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Verbal/written communication skills.
EQUIPMENT: Computer, fax, copier, motor vehicle and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in the organization, planning and implementation of Project BASIC curriculum in the assigned elementary schools.
2. Locate, select, and develop resources needed for Project BASIC
3. In coordination with school principals, schedule and present classroom instruction for grades K-3.
4. In coordination with school administrators; develop system for referring students to appropriate community agencies. Provide information referral and linkage with area resources and agencies.
5. Collect and maintain data and information as may be required for reports and program evaluations.
6. Provide written documentation to complete all necessary program work in a timely manner.
7. Maintain confidentiality according to agency policies.
8. Remain current in knowledge of community resources and how to access those resources.
9. Keep supervisors apprised of all critical or potential emergency situations.
10. Responds to emergency/crisis situations calmly, rationally and in accordance with agency policy and procedures.
11. Provide consultation and education services to the community as requested by supervisor/administration
12. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and inservices and individual program planning staffings as needed.
13. All other duties as assigned.
