## Summary

This requisition expires on May 28, 2025, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.

Responsible for gathering and analyzing data on criminals, crime victims, disorder, quality of life issues, traffic issues, and internal police operations to support the reduction of crime and disorder throughout the community by enhancing the ability of the Police Department to adequately identify and effectively respond to both emerging and long-term issues.

## Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Functions

  • Provides tactical analysis of crime data directed towards the short-term development of patrol and investigative priorities and the deployment of police resources, focusing on individual high-profile crimes, crime patterns and specific crime series
  • Provides strategic analysis of long-term crime trends, hot spots, and problem solving at the macro level in the community to provide guidance on policing strategies, policies, resource acquisition, and crime prevention techniques
  • Provides quality crime data to help focus the deployment and activities of police resources so that they can be the most effective and efficient in addressing crime and disorder
  • Analyzes crime data by collecting, disseminating and evaluating data, identifying trends, patterns and changes in criminal activity, creating, reviewing and publishing crime bulletins and illustrating crime patterns and statistics through charts, graphs, reports and maps
  • Provides research support for criminal investigations by establishing and maintaining intelligence records, assisting in identifying criminal suspects, and performing multi-database computer searches
  • Assists in determining relationships between criminal suspects and information gathered from internal and external documentation
  • Coordinates the exchange of criminal intelligence information internally and externally by responding to requests for information from police personnel, citizens, and other law enforcement agencies
  • Reviews and analyzes crime and arrest reports with particular emphasis on index crimes; determines correlation between series of criminal activity
  • Makes internal presentations regarding crimes and criminal activity in the community. This includes weekly, monthly, and annual statistics, or presentations regarding specific crimes or crime trends.
  • Produces job-specific publications which include but are not limited to: statistical reports, crime bulletins, departmental communications, and periodic summary reports for command and executive staff
  • Assists with maintenance of internal databases of selected persons, including known offenders by various crime types or offenses
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Additional Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Makes public presentations to specific groups regarding crime statistics in the community

## Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Computer Science, Math or other closely related field
  • Two years of relevant experience in data analysis, trend analysis, research methods, and statistics preferably in a law enforcement role

OR

  • Certification in crime analysis from the International Association of Crime Analysts or similar organization.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Core Competencies

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including the capability of producing reports suitable for Council presentations and for use in a court of law
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, e. . balancing and prioritizing requests for statistical analysis and research for multiple criminal cases that all contain time-sensitive elements
  • Advanced math skills including complex statistical analysis and complex mathematical formulations
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office products, numerous public and private databases, and other task-specific computer software

Preferences

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Prior experience in law enforcement

Conditions Of Employment

  • Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must be able to work outside of regular business hours as required
  • Must meet civilian hiring standards of the Denton Police Department, as such applicants may be required to complete a personal history statement prior to interview so the department can complete an investigative background check
