Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate care and support to residents in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and home care environments. This position requires a commitment to fostering independence, dignity, and respect for each individual while ensuring their safety and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans.
- Monitor vital signs and document changes in residents' health status.
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Assist with mobility needs, including the use of Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Observe and report any changes in behavior or health to the appropriate personnel.
- Support individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia through compassionate memory care techniques.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to implement effective care strategies for residents.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in caregiving, home health, or direct support roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with working with individuals who have developmental disabilities or autism is an asset.
- Experience in long-term care settings such as nursing homes or hospice care is beneficial.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting residents with mobility needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- A commitment to providing high-quality patient observation and monitoring for resident safety.
