Who We Are:

  • Eye Thrive is a locally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers children to pursue their full potential by delivering essential eyecare across the St. Louis region.
  • In June 2025, Eye Thrive launched a second Mobile Vision Clinic, doubling our capacity and our impact on the lives of St. Louis kids.
  • This school year, Eye Thrive will provide 25,000+ vision screenings, 8,000+ comprehensive eye exams, 8,000+ prescription glasses, 3,000+ replacement glasses, and 300+ follow-up care referrals, all completely free of charge.

Job Overview:

  • The Director of Operations is a key member of the leadership team responsible for overseeing all aspects of Eye Thrive operations to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality programming. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role requires strong management skills to lead and supervise the operations team, drive staff development, and implement efficient processes that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Balancing big-picture planning with accountability for day-to-day functions, the Director of Operations drives cross-departmental collaboration, manages key partnerships, and oversees program planning, budget monitoring, and compliance to ensure operational excellence. This position requires a solution-oriented leader who thrives in dynamic environments, effectively manages competing priorities, and uses data-driven insights to support continuous program improvement and organizational growth.
  • The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills, capable of building strong relationships across teams and with external partners. They are adaptable, detail-focused, and committed to advancing Eye Thrive’s impact through clear processes, effective decision-making, and a culture centered on empathy, accountability, and equity.

Job Type:

  • Permanent; Full Time; Exempt.
  • Expected 40 hours/week; Monday-Friday.
  • Participation in morning/evening meetings and special events will be required as needed.
  • Reports to Chief Executive Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership
    • Demonstrates strategic leadership by anticipating needs, aligning team efforts with organizational priorities, and fostering a culture of empathy, accountability, and high performance.
    • Participates and contributes in regular leadership team meetings to ensure we lead with transparency, respond in real time, and stay connected as one team moving towards our mission.
    • Leads and supports professional development for operations team to promote skill-building, collaboration, and growth.
    • Monitors departmental budget and expenses, reviews monthly budget vs actuals, and adjusts plans as needed to meet financial goals.
    • Prepares bi-monthly board reports summarizing key activities, progress, and updates; participates in board meetings and committees as needed.
    • Builds enthusiasm and consensus around team strategies, key initiatives, and long-term organizational goals.
  • Management
    • Leads high-performing team, ensuring alignment with organizational and department goals.
    • Schedules and conducts regular one-on-one meetings and team meetings with the team to provide guidance, address challenges, and review progress towards SMART goals.
    • Manages team in creation and revision of streamlined processes to ensure the timely, efficient, and successful achievement of all operations goals.
    • Provides timely support to operations staff to address day-to-day logistical needs, ensuring smooth execution across team functions.
    • Maintains compliance with healthcare regulations, ensuring programs adhere to ethical and professional standards.
    • Completes all steps of the established performance evaluation cycle with the team, ensuring timely follow-through, consistency, and alignment with individual development, accountability, and organizational goals.
    • Reviews time tracking and keeping records for direct reports to ensure accuracy, and communicates any discrepancies or questions for correction or clarification.
  • Partnerships and Collaboration
    • Leads efforts to cultivate and maintain new and existing relationships with external stakeholders to support programming and mission goals.
    • Manages school district and organization partnerships, including the annual renewal of services and the MOU process.
    • Actively incorporates insights from the Community Relations Coordinator and Family Advisory Board to ensure they reflect the voices and needs of those we serve.
    • Develops and delivers comprehensive professional development for site partners to support program success.
    • Participates in external community meetings and events to network with potential partners.
    • Collaborates with leadership to ensure operational and programmatic integration.
  • Planning and Implementation
    • Sets and maintains a tone for the operations team that prioritizes our kids and establishes a standard of empathy and understanding.
    • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of program delivery and operational processes to ensure seamless coordination and effective execution.
    • Identifies and recommends opportunities to respond to changes in program needs, objectives, and priorities and to improve the effectiveness of programs.
    • Creates and maintains mobile vision clinic and screening calendars, ensuring effective scheduling and seamless communication of updates.
    • Collaborates across departments, including marketing and development teams, and works with volunteers to support organizational goals.
    • Provides oversight for the summer schedule, health fair, and parent advisory board to ensure effective planning and successful execution.
    • Oversees inventory management, optical and program equipment, vehicle fleet, and facilities management teams to maintain operational efficiency.
    • Understands and maintains compliance with healthcare regulations, ensuring programs adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Evaluation and Reporting
    • Oversees program design and evaluation, ensuring they are effective, evidence-based, and mission-aligned to meet the needs of children in the St. Louis region.
    • Uses community feedback, needs assessments and data to determine needs and then develop, pilot and test new initiatives to address them.
    • Measures the success of all youth and family program activities via surveys and outcomes to support continuous improvement while maintaining mission focus and organizational capacity.
    • Regularly monitors progress toward program goals by analyzing data, evaluating outcomes, and implementing adjustments to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Communicates progress and results to leadership, staff, families, and site partners, ensuring transparency and alignment with organizational priorities and mission.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Advances the strategic plan by holding self accountable and collaborating with the team to ensure organizational priorities, goals, and targets are met as outlined in the work plan.
  • General Organizational Support
    • Demonstrates a deep commitment to Eye Thrive’s mission by centering kids and families in all decisions and actions. Leads with empathy, compassion, and trust while advancing equity and transformational change in both day-to-day work and long-term impact. Consistently reflects organizational values in relationships, communication, and decision-making.
    • Supports organization-wide initiatives, including special events, fundraisers, stewardship activities, and community outreach or operations, as needed.
    • Completes other tasks as assigned and required by direct supervisor or CEO.

    • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in business management, operations management, nonprofit management, public health, or related field is preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations management and employee supervision.
    • Non-profit experience preferred.
    • Proficient skill level with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Proficient skill level with Google Documents, Sheets, and Calendar.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands
    • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds on occasion when support Eye Thrive visits and/or events during set-up and tear-down.
    • Ability to move up and down stairwells.
    • Must have access to a reliable vehicle to travel to schools and community centers and between office locations.
  • Work Environment
    • Works at a shared workspace office at Eye Thrive headquarters at the Delmar DivINe and at Eye Thrive warehouse in Maryland Heights.
    • Frequently travels to Mobile Vision Clinic at various schools and community centers throughout Greater St. Louis.
