Role Overview
We’re looking for a Director of People Operations to lead and improve our HR systems and volunteer experience. This role will oversee onboarding, offboarding, documentation, and HR operations, working closely with department leaders and volunteer teams. You’ll help shape a people-first approach to volunteer engagement and operational efficiency—and be responsible for building and leading a team of volunteer People Ops professionals.
Responsibilities
Own and improve end-to-end onboarding and offboarding processes- Build, manage, and support a team of volunteer People Operations contributors
- Oversee documentation and workflows for new volunteer orientation
- Collaborate with department leads to forecast and support volunteer staffing needs
- Maintain and improve records and systems in BambooHR (if applicable)
- Identify opportunities to automate administrative tasks using Google Suite tools
- Ensure volunteer processes are inclusive, clear, and accessible
- Maintain and update org charts, team directories, and internal documents
- Support internal communications around HR updates and best practices
- Uphold and model our values around collaboration, equity, and accountability
Requirements
Prior experience in HR, people operations, or volunteer coordination- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience leading or mentoring teams
- Comfortable working asynchronously with a global team
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
Nice to Have
Experience with BambooHR, especially in building onboarding and offboarding flows- Comfort automating tasks and managing templates or workflows in Google Suite
- Background in nonprofit, volunteer-led, or distributed team environments
