The Director of Technology is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and use of technology throughout the organization, with a focus on supporting the unique operational needs of a trucking, construction material supplier, mining, and construction business. This role ensures the technology infrastructure and applications are robust, secure, scalable, aligned, and evolving with the company's strategic goals. The Director of Technology works closely with operations, logistics, accounting, HR, and project management teams to improve system functionality and overall efficiency. The ideal candidate blends strategic vision with a hands-on leadership style, capable of guiding teams, managing vendors, and translating technical opportunities into operational value
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Develop and lead the IT strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational needs across the company.
- Oversee and manage all IT systems including fleet management software, GPS tracking, telematics, dispatch systems, ERP platforms, project management software, and mobile technology solutions.
- Ensure data security, network stability, system uptime, and disaster recovery plans are in place and effective through frequent review and testing.
- Direct IT support services for employees across field and office locations, ensuring timely resolution of hardware, software, and network issues.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements using technology to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs (automation, field mobility, AI/ML initiatives).
- Build and scale business intelligence capabilities using platforms like Power BI or similar.
- Partner with vendors and service providers to evaluate, negotiate, and manage IT products and services.
- Manage the IT budget, including capital expenditures, software licensing, and hardware procurement.
- Oversee system integration projects and ensure the smooth adoption of new technologies across departments.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, cybersecurity standards, and internal IT policies.
- Hire, develop, and manage a team of IT professionals, providing coaching and leadership support.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Experience supporting technology in the trucking, logistics, or construction industries is strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of fleet telematics, GPS systems, ERP platforms (e.g., Viewpoint, Acumatica, Sage), and mobile workforce solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex IT environments with field-based operations.
- Proven experience in IT budgeting, vendor management, and strategic planning.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Change management or digital transformation experience. ERP transition experience is a plus.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Work Requirements
