We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized LTL Dispatcher to join our operations team and play a key role in daily freight coordination and driver support.
Job Summary
The LTL Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily movement of LTL freight by scheduling, dispatching, and monitoring local pickup and delivery (P&D) drivers. This position ensures efficient routing, compliance with DOT regulations, on-time performance, and strong communication with both internal teams and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispatch and monitor local P&D drivers for timely pickups and deliveries
- Plan efficient routes based on freight volume, delivery timeframes, and geographic areas
- Communicate with drivers throughout the day to provide updates, resolve issues, and relay instructions
- Coordinate with dock supervisors to prioritize outbound and inbound shipments
- Check drivers in and out, verify BOLs, manifests, and delivery paperwork
- Assign delivery orders (PROs) and ensure documents are accurate and complete
- Maintain communication with carrier partners to coordinate linehaul and cartage transfers
- Update TMS (Transportation Management System) and dispatch records with accurate tracking and status updates
- Email or upload paperwork to carrier portals or customers as needed
- Leave messages or follow up with drivers and partners regarding next steps or unresolved issues
- Assist with operational reporting and compliance documentation
- Support other dispatchers and team members as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); college degree a plus
- 2+ years of LTL dispatching or transportation operations experience (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of LTL routing, freight documents (BOLs, manifests), and PRO creation
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and HOS (Hours of Service) rules
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and TMS/dispatch software (e.g., McLeod, TMW, or similar)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Pay based on experience
Work Environment
- Office and dock-side environment
- Typical work hours: M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
- May require occasional extended hours
