Teaching Assistants support Class / Lead Teachers in creating a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for all; ensuring the students experience a school environment created in accordance with Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and the Eight AWSNA Principles of Waldorf Education; and furthering WWS’s commitment to DEIB by creating an inclusive classroom environment.
This is an hourly, full-time position, for approximately 40 hours per week. In addition to classroom responsibilities, attendance at weekly full faculty and department meetings; in-service and out-service trainings prior to and immediately after each school year; and professional development days are encouraged. In some cases, the Assistant may also be requested to join parent-teacher meetings and conferences as well as enrollment events.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Assist Class / Lead Teacher in classroom set up
- Support individual students to demonstrate appropriate classroom behavior
- Provide individual academic support during class, as needed
- Monitor children during class, class transitions, recess, and lunch, as needed
- Other duties as required by the Class Teacher
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working with preschool and/or elementary-aged children
- Experience working with neurodivergent children preferred
- Familiarity or strong interest in Waldorf education is preferred
- Ability to pass a Maryland Background check and meet Maryland Office of Childcare Compliance requirements (some Teaching Assistants may be required to obtain and maintain the OCC Lead Teacher certification; WWS will assume the financial responsibility for this certification)
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Waldorf Teacher Certification or training strongly preferred
