Beaver Brook Children's School is now hiring a new team member to join our high-quality early education program and nature-based school. This posting is for a school year teaching assistant opportunity with a start date in August 2025. Opportunities for part time work available June-July 2025 for the right candidate.
We are currently seeking an additional teaching assistant to work in our licensed facility with either toddlers (1-2 years), preschool (3-4 years), and/or our kindergarten co-op (5 years). Group placement will be determined based on applicant's experience, background, and skill set. The right candidate would be joining one-two lead teaching staff. Must be able to work in a team, communicate openly and professionally, and act responsibly around children. College level coursework in child development and/or early education preferred, but not required.
The Beaver Brook Children's School is a non-profit childcare and preschool program located in the Old School Community Center in Wilmington, Vermont. We also offer a homeschool co-op during the school year, and a nature-based day camp in Summer. Our classrooms are filled with natural light, high-quality materials and furniture, and highly qualified lead educators. We are outside for much of the day and root our teaching philosohies in respect for ourselves, our community, and nature. The center is adjacent to the Beaver Brook, Buzzy Park, Baker Field, and the Beaver Brook trail, and just a few blocks to the local library, police, and fire station. Duties:
- Implement play based learning activities, center based play, and outdoor experiences for young children.
- Provide developmentally appropriate interactions and high-quality supervision.
- Maintain frequent communication with parents through informal or formal discussions, digital programs (BrightWheel) and written communication.
- Encourage self-regulation and good hygiene for children through behavior modeling.
- Help ensure smooth transitions throughout the day.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year professional experience working with groups of children (childcare, camps, etc. - must provide references)
- Must be comfortable working outside in all seasons
- Must be able to bend, crouch, kneel, squat, and sit on ground at children's level
- Must be able to walk up to 1 mile over uneven surfaces
- Must be able to lift and/or carry toddlers up to 40 lbs
- Requirements may also include the ability to perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, sanitization, etc.
- Completion of mandated reporting training (provided)
- Completion of basic specialized care training (through local agency, and we cover the cost)
- Completion of pediatric first aid and CPR (provided on-site, and we cover the cost)
- Must clear background check and fingerprinting by the VT Department of Children and Families (we cover the cost)
- Preferred: At least 12 credits in early education or a related field, 3 years experience, participation in the Early Childhood Career Ladder
