Job Duties:
The Virginia Beach Convention Center exists to facilitate successful experiences by offering a full range of high-quality services and amenities for conventions, professional trade shows, consumer shows and community events. You will be an integral part of a team committed to providing exceptional customer service to our clients. Job duties include the following:
o Plan, direct, and supervise large events (5000+) held in a public assembly facility ensuring compliance with occupancy agreements, conformance with safety and welfare regulations, contractual requirements, and delivery of exceptional quality customer service.
o Assist in the logistical and on-site coordination of set-up, movein/out, and supervision of events and event staff.
o Create detailed service orders in a timely manner through computerized event management system, liaison with contracted caterer and outside service contractors to assure client's needs have been met.
o Provide clients with itemized cost estimates of facility related charges prior to their event and invoicing upon event conclusion.
o Schedule contract services and equipment to provide services not available in-house.
o Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines with special attention to detail and be able to work independently exercising judgment and initiative.
o Advise clients of minimum staffing required to safely and effectively carry out events. Inspect facility set-up for compliance with work orders.
o Ensure all event related documents are signed and filed appropriately.
o Complete a post event evaluation defining any issues that arise, including incidents which may be in violation of policies or result in claims for damages and make recommendations of how to preclude their re-occurrence.
o Report exemplary service performed by staff as well as any staff related issues that may have occurred.
o Performs other tasks related to the operation of the convention center as needed/assigned.
o Responsible for ensuring compliance to life safety policies and procedures through staffing plans, floor plan design and onsite management of events.
o Ability to work late nights, or early mornings, or weekends, based on event schedule.
o Successful candidate must complete training and obtain certification in Defensive Driving, First Aid/CPR/AED and Trained Crowd Management within first year of employment. Certifications must be maintained for duration of employment in this classification.
o Positions in this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS:
High school or GED plus six years experience in fields such as event supervisor, hotel event coordinator, association meeting planner, business or public administration, public relations, hotel/restaurant management, or supervision in a public assembly facility utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.

Preferences:
- Familiarity with creating and interpreting CAD drawings
- Knowledge of Ungerboeck or similar event management software
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation
- Graduation from IAVM Venue Management School

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
