Overview
The Berkshire Food Project (BFP) seeks to alleviate hunger, food insecurity, and social isolation by serving healthy, no cost meals, and connecting people to other resources, all in a dignified and respectful manner.
Our organization is seeking candidates to fill the upcoming vacancy of Executive Director, who would help maintain and grow our organization’s operations. The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented individual with strong leadership capabilities, who is also compassionate, organized, highly motivated, detail oriented, with a proven ability to work in unison with staff and Board of Directors. This person should be ready to improvise, be eager to serve as the public face of the organization, be committed to its mission, and be ready to make the BFP part of the transformation of North Adams. The BFP is often the first open door for people in need, a ready knowledge of and cheerful collaboration with all available social service agencies is necessary.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Supervising an active kitchen that serves on average 200+ meals per day
- Managing paid staff and volunteers
- Working cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and community members and partners
- Attending monthly board meetings including preparation and presentation of board packet
- Overseeing organization’s budget
- Fundraising, which includes but is not limited to, sourcing and applying for grants, annual appeal and donor relations
- Actively recruiting and engaging volunteers
- Payroll and bookkeeping including the preparation of operational and financial reports
- Managing and maintaining social media (Facebook, Instagram) and marketing materials
- Connecting community members with existing social services in the community
- Insuring that BFP provides a safe and welcoming space for all
Skills
- 3 years of experience in social service management, including grant writing
- Experience with Quickbooks, Google Office Suite and fundraising software (preferred)
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders
- Experience with marketing, public speaking, and advocacy
- Experience with Squarespace and social media
- Demonstrated time management and communication skills
- Serv Safe Manager certification (cost would be compensated if necessary)
- Basic first aid, CPR, Narcan and AED certification (preferred)
