Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest providers of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. We operate Florida PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) Centers, the largest PACE program in Florida, which serves as health plan, healthcare provider, and social center designed for older adults with complex medical needs. Job Title: Fleet and Safety Specialist
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Transportation Director, the Fleet and Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the transportation department staff and equipment operate safely and meet regulatory compliance. This includes inspection, maintenance, record keeping and communication of the fleet of vehicles. The Fleet and Safety Coordinator also provides support to the Transportation Director regarding monitoring staff performance related to safety issues, conducts incident investigations and performs the safety training to drivers as needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops and implements a safety program for the Transportation Department.
- Develops, facilitates, administers and enforces training curricula for transportation including FPC competency requirements as well as Department of Transportation (DOT) and other regulatory requirements.
- Develops and implements a fleet tracking program; continuously evaluates functionality and adequacy of fleet size and makes recommendations regarding acquisition and retirement of vehicles.
- Plans, organizes, performs and directs vehicle maintenance and repair programs to ensure compliance and safe operation of agency fleet.
- Keeps organized and consistent record keeping for vehicle repairs, service schedules, monthly check-up lists, mileage forms and other pertinent information.
- Adjudicates vehicle related invoices and monitors cost efficiency of services and vendors.
- Conducts monthly staff safety training meetings and additional training meetings as needed.
- Monitors quality assurance indicators and standards such as defined in FPC quality improvement program.
- Makes recommendations to facilitate operations, resolve issues and mitigate risk.
- Acts as relief/back-up driver for department when department is short staffed by safely operating company vehicles to transport participants to and from their homes, FPC sites, off-site medical appointments, and/or activity outings.
- Acts as a back-up to dispatch staff including scheduling routes and fielding transportation request.
- Assists in interviewing potential hires and conduct new hire orientation and training.
- Manage vendor relations with parts, equipment and repair suppliers.
Advice on the purchasing of new vehicles and other resources.
- Assists in ongoing staff development and evaluation through ride-along observations and observance of driver conduct when at the site and/or on the road.
- Supports emergency road situations according to Insurance and FPC policies and carry out investigations, data collection and analysis of transportation incidents and/or complaints from citizens.
- Attends IDT team and care planning meetings as a recognized team member according to FPC policies and CMS regulations.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results and information
about participants or families.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelors level degree in business administration, public administration, facilities management, or related field preferred.
- A combination of experience and education will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of four (4) years fleet maintenance operations, including experience in vehicle and equipment acquisition, maintenance, repair and disposal.
Licenses/Certifications
Florida Driver's License and Proof of Insurance required
Passenger Endorsement preferred.
Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or comparable certification preferred

- Experience with planning, facilitating and documenting meetings and organization.
- Strong computer skills – including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Experience training staff on safety requirements and defensive driving techniques.
- Experience training staff on proper use and maintenance of position equipment (e.g. vehicle, lift, tie-downs).
- Experience training staff on, working with and transporting elderly or disabled populations.
- May be required to drive a company or rental vehicle (failure to pass an annual Motor Vehicle Record MVR) background screen may result in termination of employment.
