Position Overview
We are hiring a General Maintenance Worker / Janitorial Worker to support ongoing maintenance and cleanliness at a federal site in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. This full-time, on-site role encompasses general upkeep, landscaping, sanitation, and minor repairs. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining a clean and functional environment in alignment with operational and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks including inspections, filter replacements, painting, and basic plumbing or lighting repairs.
- Assist skilled trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) with corrective or emergency maintenance tasks.
- Record work activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Groundskeeping
- Maintain lawns, trim bushes, edge walkways, and remove debris from outdoor areas.
- Operate landscaping equipment safely and ensure tools are properly maintained.
Janitorial Services
- Clean restrooms, offices, common areas, kitchens, and detention facilities in accordance with contract specifications.
- Manage supply inventory, restock as needed, and ensure sanitation standards are met.
- Handle waste removal and recycling per facility protocols.
Facility Support
- Move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Perform minor cosmetic repairs such as patching drywall, painting, and simple carpentry.
- Support emergency response activities including weather-related prep and cleanup.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA regulations and site-specific safety and environmental guidelines.
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or incidents to the Deputy Project Manager immediately.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in general maintenance, janitorial services, or groundskeeping.
- Knowledge of basic building systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) and ability to perform light repairs.
- Experience with janitorial and landscaping equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- OSHA 10-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment).
- Prior experience in government or federally contracted facilities.
Skills & Attributes
- Dependable, punctual, and able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in basic computer use for work documentation.
Physical Requirements & Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in outdoor conditions.
- Must be available for occasional overtime or emergency call-ins.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check (HSPD-12 clearance required).
