Girls on the Run believes that all girls and communities should have access to our programs. We strive to eliminate barriers to participation, to continue creating programming that engage all communities, to be intentional about staff and volunteer diversity, and to promote a culture of inclusion across the organization.
Our council currently serves 1200 girls annually across Union and Montgomery Counties.
Position Summary
The Executive Director is a highly skilled nonprofit professional who provides leadership, vision, and direction to the council and the broader Girls on the Run organization. The Executive Director represents the council to the public, leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, oversees program delivery in the designated territory, builds donor relationships, and oversees personnel. The Executive Director works closely with the council Board of Directors, Girls on the Run International Headquarters, and is responsible for expanding systems and procedures to accomplish the mission and reach the strategic goals set forth by the board.
The Executive Director develops organizational strategy, sound practices and supportive relationships, both internally and externally, resulting in cooperative and effective collaborations that further the mission of Girls on the Run. The Girls on the Run® Executive Director (ED) must possess a passion for, and commitment to, improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades.
Principle responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Strategic Planning
- Provide strategic direction and leadership of the overall program through careful implementation and continuation of the Strategic Plan.
- Develop a comprehensive council growth plan that reflects creative program and site development strategies with an intentional focus on growing access and diversifying communities served.
- Collaborate with the Board to identify and plan for infrastructure growth parallel to growth of the program.
Fund Development
- Develop sustainable revenue plan with a focus on grant writing and individual donor development, and stewardship
- Develop and sustain sponsorship relationships with local, corporate, and national partners.
- Serve as ambassador to raise awareness by building and maintaining relationships with local media, service groups, corporate groups, fitness organizations, etc.
Staff and Volunteer Leadership
- Provide direction, oversight, and professional development opportunities for staff, as well as leadership to the volunteer coaches and committee leadership.
- Develop coach recruitment and retention efforts that result in coaches representing the diversity of girls served.
- Cultivate and steward key relationships with community organizations and site liaisons, coaches, parents, participants, and volunteers.
- Maintain strong relationship with the Board of Directors and Girls on the Run International.
Operational Administration
- Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all laws and guidelines governing nonprofit organizations and the Girls on the Run International Membership Agreement, Policies, and Guidelines.
- Developing and implementing necessary policies and procedures.
- Manage the organization with a business mindset by establishing and implementing efficient systems and strategies.
- Execute all financial, operational, and programmatic reports to Girls on the Run International and to state and local funding agencies in a timely manner.
- Leverage data to monitor GOTR Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and track progress toward meeting organizational goals.
Finance – with Treasurer, finance staff, and appropriate committees
- Ensuring optimal financial performance of the council.
- Maintaining processes for proper record keeping and internal financial controls.
- Assisting Board of Directors with development and management of annual budget.
- With the Treasurer and finance staff, reviewing and reporting all financial activities to the board on a regular basis.
- Reviewing analysis of financial activities (income and expense) to discern trends, identify areas of improvement, address problems, and develop forecasts.
Build Community Presence
- Oversee special events planning and execution such as the season-end 5k events, virtual summits, etc.
- Ensure community engagement and communication are consistent with the GOTR brand and core values.
- Strategically engage with community partners to expand organizational awareness and reach.
Required Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of relevant education or work experience, with executive leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit community impact environment.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, setting and managing budgets, and financial forecasting.
- Passion for the Girls on the Run mission.
- Ability to effectively communicate issues surrounding girl empowerment, self-esteem, body image, and whole-person health and comfort delivering presentations to large groups.
- Strong technological proficiency.
- Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
- Must be available nights and weekends as needed for GOTR events, funding opportunities, and ambassador engagements.
- Reliable transportation.
- A flexible and adaptable team player with a sense of humor.
- Connections to the local community preferred.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in the Union County area. The position allows for an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule dictated by needs of the Council.; however, the candidate must be locally based to provide hands-on leadership and support to our community
