The position will maintain a safe playable athletic facility for the Mission's field and further be a part of the future of the team in any possible new stadium plans for our sport's turf and grounds plans. You’ll be the leader fully responsible for budget, daily turf cultural practices, weather monitoring, preparations for upcoming events and homestands.
Main Responsibilities:
- Planning and executing the daily tasks of the grounds staff with the help of an assistant.
- Manage all clay work, mounds, plate, infield skin, warning track.
- Handle and engage in all cultural practices- mowing, edging, aerating, topdressing, verticutting, fertilizer application/ calibration, applications of liquid fertilizers and pesticides.
- Managing equipment maintenance and recordkeeping.
- Monitoring weather conditions and managing tarp practices.
- Managing and designing a budget for the ground's department and all needs on a yearly basis.
- Will be required to work all MILB scheduled games.
Other Duties:
- Assist with extra events held on the field.
- Record daily field observations.
Qualifications:
The candidate should have a 2 or 4 year degree in Turf Management or have equivalent work experience in the sports turf industry, specifically in baseball as a groundskeeper. The right candidate will have at least 5 years experience in grounds, with specific ability managing a staff of full-time and seasonal employees. Strong communication and people skills are a necessity. Must be self-motivated with a high attention to detail and a strong work ethic. Must be able to multitask and have time management skills. Must have the ability to stand for hours at a time, withstand a multitude of weather conditions from cold wet conditions to extreme heat.
