Job Summary
The Sheldon Theatre is looking to hire a part-time house manager for weekends and occasional weeknights. The House Manager performs lead work that ensures successful conduct of performances at the Sheldon Theatre including, but not limited to: opening the building, preparing the front of house, determining appropriate curtain times in communication with the Director of Production, meeting and greeting groups, public speaking, volunteer staff supervision, patron supervision, front of house supervision, closing up the building and other related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions
Provides work direction to volunteer staff and administratively manages customer service issues. Supervises ushers, house monitors, concessionaires, bartenders, and in the absence of the Audience Services Manager has full authority in the front of house during any program.
Manages front of house operations during performances and events:- Oversees efficient functioning of the Front of House while on site for an event
- Oversees Front of House operations during performances, including but not limited to, event start time, conducting performance evaluation, selling of artist merchandise, cleaning up and closing of building
- On-site Front of House authority in the absence of the Audience Services Manager
- Performs any position in the Front of House – volunteer usher, house monitor, concessionaire and any others when needed
- May make pre-show or intermission announcements
- Responsible for patrons’ safety, comfort, and enjoyment of a performance by functioning as a problem-solver in a flexible, pleasant, and understanding manner
- Assists Audience Services Manager in developing and administrating Front of House policies and procedures including emergency and safety procedures, dress codes, expectations for front of house volunteer staff, completing standard event forms for each show, training front of house volunteers on equipment, procedures, and patron protocol.
- Greets volunteers and conducts pre-show meeting
- Organizes guided tours of the Sheldon Theatre, training is provided
- Ensures that all staff know safety rules and emergency evacuation procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Experience, Education, Certifications, Physical Requirements
This job requires a high school diploma and two or more years of experience in a face-to-face customer service setting. Experience working or volunteering in a performing arts theater is preferred, but not required.
Desired Qualifications: Bartender experience.
Physical Requirements: Work is light with frequent standing, stair climbing and walking. Intermittent lifting up to 25 pounds is required. The job requires good vision and the ability to work in dim light during performances. Flexible schedule with hours worked including holidays, evenings and weekends.
