Job description

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

As Inventory Control Manager based in Macquarie Park, Sydney, you’ll lead the governance, control and continuous improvement of Optus Networks’ inventory management processes across the enterprise. You’ll oversee inventory held across Optus facilities, the national distribution centre and field-support partner locations, ensuring critical stock is accurately recorded, appropriately controlled and available to support network operations, maintenance and business continuity. This full-time role will also lead a blended team and drive improvements in inventory accuracy, visibility, compliance and operational efficiency.

What You'll Do

  • Own and oversee the end-to-end inventory management process across Optus-controlled and partner-supported storage locations.
  • Establish and maintain consistent inventory control standards, procedures and operating disciplines across the network.
  • Govern inventory receipts, issues, transfers, returns, repairs, disposals and adjustments, ensuring movements are accurately recorded and appropriately authorised.
  • Drive improvements in inventory accuracy, stock visibility, record integrity and inventory status across all locations.
  • Establish and monitor cycle counting, reconciliation and exception-management practices, investigating and resolving inventory variances.
  • Plan and coordinate the annual stocktake program, including scope, resources, communications, variance validation and corrective actions.
  • Lead the adoption and continuous improvement of inventory management processes, systems, reporting and controls, partnering with Technology and process owners on delivery, testing, training and adoption.
  • Lead, coach and develop a blended team of permanent and contract Inventory Controllers, while building effective relationships with internal stakeholders, logistics providers and field-support partners.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • At least five years’ experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, spares management, supply chain or a related discipline, including experience across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing inventory held by third-party logistics providers, distribution centres, contractors or field-support partners.
  • Strong understanding of inventory fundamentals, including stock movements, reconciliation, cycle counting, stocktakes, inventory status and variance management.
  • Experience implementing or improving ERP, warehouse management or inventory management systems, workflows, controls and reporting.
  • Proven ability to improve inventory accuracy, process compliance, data quality and operational visibility through root-cause analysis and practical corrective action.
  • Demonstrated people-leadership experience, including managing a blended team of permanent employees and contractors.
  • Strong analytical, planning, problem-solving, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • A relevant qualification in supply chain, logistics, warehousing, business, operations or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

The good stuff…

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts.
  • Make life easier and more affordable with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional ‘Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6–8 minutes); morning and afternoon.
