Job Summary
We are seeking a diligent, analytical, and proactive Legal/Compliance Intern to join our virtual team. This role is perfect for students or recent graduates of law or related programs who want hands-on experience in nonprofit compliance, legal research, and organizational risk management. You’ll help ensure that our policies, partnerships, and operations align with local and international laws governing nonprofits and virtual enterprises.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on topics related to nonprofit operations, employment law, intellectual property, and data privacy
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and editing contracts, agreements, and policy documents
- Help ensure organizational compliance with applicable regulations (local, federal, and international, where applicable)
- Review internal practices and procedures for legal accuracy and ethical standards
- Support in developing or updating codes of conduct, confidentiality agreements, dispute resolution forms, and consent documentation
- Monitor organizational activities to ensure alignment with stated legal and ethical commitments
- Participate in virtual meetings and assist legal counsel or senior staff with administrative and documentation tasks
- Contribute to internal training materials on compliance and risk mitigation
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a law, legal studies, political science, or compliance-related degree program
- Strong understanding of legal terminology and research techniques
- Familiarity with nonprofit law, employment regulations, data protection laws (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.), or a willingness to learn
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to interpret complex documents
- Integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet deadlines
