VetsEZ is seeking a skilled Linux Administrator to support enterprise healthcare IT modernization efforts for a federal client. The Linux Administrator will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Linux-based systems in both on-premises and cloud environments. This individual will play a key role in ensuring system reliability, performance, security, and compliance with federal standards.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems across development, test, and production environments.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure availability and reliability.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and security hardening in accordance with organizational and federal requirements.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure system security and compliance.
- Manage system backups, recovery processes, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Support deployment and maintenance of middleware, databases, and application platforms hosted on Linux.
- Collaborate with network, database, and application teams to resolve cross-functional system issues.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, standard operating procedures, and security compliance.
- Monitor system logs, automate routine tasks, and improve operational efficiency through scripting.
- Support security scans, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis to strengthen system resilience.
- Provide technical expertise to program leadership on system architecture, upgrades, and integration planning.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience administering Linux systems in enterprise environments.
- Proficiency with Linux distributions (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or equivalent).
- Experience with system monitoring tools, log management, and performance tuning.
- Strong shell scripting (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation and task management.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef).
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
- Hands-on experience with backup/recovery and system security best practices.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in federal healthcare IT environments, preferably with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud and virtualization platforms (VMware, AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of STIGs, RMF, and federal security compliance frameworks.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications, middleware, or databases (Oracle, IRIS, etc.).
- Relevant certifications (Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Linux+).
