Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing Inspector
ENTRY-LEVEL SALARY: $53,551 annually

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Any experience which demonstrates an understanding of Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing systems.
- Must possess the following International Code Council (ICC) certifications at time of employment, or within eighteen (18) months: ICC Plumbing Inspector (Residential and Commercial), ICC Mechanical Inspector (Residential and Commercial), & ICC Electrical Inspector (Residential and Commercial)
- Knowledge of all municipal, state, and national codes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Consults with the MEP Chief concerning interpretation of adopted MEP codes and City ordinances, rules, and regulations related to MEP and construction standards.
Reviews submitted plans for code compliance.
Enforces codes related to residential, commercial and industrial MEP installation and repair occurring within the legal boundaries of the City of Knoxville.
Reviews complaints concerning alleged violations of the applicable MEP codes, gathers evidence, and appears in court as a witness when necessary.
Inspects residential, commercial and industrial MEP installations and alterations in order to enforce compliance with existing applicable MEP codes and other safety and construction standards.
Uses inspection tools to verify compliant installation of MEP.
Notes deviations during inspections and advises contractors of measures necessary to bring work into compliance with regulatory codes.
Consults with contractors, architects and engineers regarding the design and lay-out of MEP installations and alterations.
Advises owners and contractors of acceptable MEP practices and standards.
Answers complaint calls, problems and/or questions from the public, contractors, etc. regarding inspections and code requirements.
Demonstrates effective public relations.
Records and maintains information regarding MEP inspections.
Completes a variety of forms and simple reports.
Ensures that appropriate MEP permits and certificates of occupancy have been issued/obtained.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Ensures that contractors working within the City limits possess valid occupational licenses; informs contractors of rejected jobs due to violations of the code.
Meets regularly with other inspectors to discuss and coordinate inspection assignments.
Performs related duties as required.
