Job Summary: A Medical Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients, medical equipment, and supplies to and from medical facilities, appointments, or home. This role requires a high level of responsibility, professionalism, and adherence to safety standards. The driver ensures that patients are transported comfortably and on time while following all legal and medical guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Transportation:
- Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities.
- Assist patients with boarding and disembarking the vehicle, including those with mobility issues or in wheelchairs.
- Ensure that patients are secure and comfortable during transport.
- Communicate with patients and caregivers to confirm pick-up times and locations.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition, clean, and adequately equipped with necessary safety equipment.
- Report any vehicle issues or mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel for timely repair.
- Maintain accurate logs of vehicle maintenance and service schedules.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies regarding patient transport.
- Ensure that all required medical documentation and patient records are kept confidential.
- Monitor the patient’s well-being during transport, alerting medical staff if necessary.
- Complete required reports, including trip logs, delivery confirmations, and patient interaction notes.
- Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with dispatchers and healthcare providers to ensure timely pick-ups and deliveries.
- Provide updates on the patient's condition, any delays, or incidents during the transportation process.
- Work with the medical team to ensure smooth transitions and handovers of patients.
- Customer Service:
- Provide friendly, compassionate, and professional service to patients and caregivers.
- Address patient concerns or issues promptly and effectively.
- Treat all patients with dignity, respect, and empathy, particularly those with special medical needs.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete patient transport logs and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Keep records of any incidents, delays, or patient changes during transport.
Qualifications:
- Education & Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or required (depending on the employer).
- Experience:
- Previous experience in transportation, caregiving, or healthcare-related fields is preferred.
- Experience working with elderly, disabled, or medically fragile individuals is a plus.
- Skills:
- Excellent driving skills and knowledge of GPS navigation and traffic patterns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and provide excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of safety and healthcare regulations is a plus.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist patients with mobility (e.g., helping them in and out of vehicles).
- Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour
