Supervisor: Exceptional Education Director and Exceptional Education Assistant Director
Job Goal:
- Assist students with disabilities in locating and securing employment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or comparable college course work from an accredited educational institution.
- Training and experience working with children with disabilities.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including students, parents, employers, and community agencies.
- Ability to plan and implement job coaching activities.
- Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement with transition assessments.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, administrators and others.
- Familiarity with implementation of students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Possess or have the ability to acquire a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) upon employment.
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, highly intensive work environment.
- Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Assists in finding employment for special education students.
- Plans and attends job fairs for students with disabilities.
- Determines student’s ability level and interests.
- Meets with local businesses to find out employment needs and matches them to students’ abilities.
- Selects, develops, modifies and/or adapts materials and resources which support learning.
- Maintains academic focus by using a variety of motivational techniques.
- Establishes and uses behavior management techniques which are appropriate.
- Establishes routines and procedures and works with students on consistently following them.
- Manages time effectively.
- Organizes teaching and student materials for efficient distribution and collection.
- Provides feedback to students about the appropriateness of responses and quality of work with a focus on improving student performance.
- Communicates, in understandable terms, individual student progress to students, parents, and Board personnel as directed.
- Encourages self-assessment by students and assists them in developing plans for improving their performance.
- Communicates high learning expectations for all students.
- Provides instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Collaborates with students, parents, school staff and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needs.
- Provides accurate and timely information to parents and students about academic and behavioral performance of students.
- Works with other teachers in planning instruction and special activities.
- Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services and programs.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
- Uses collaboration skills to work as a productive team member; serves on committees or task forces as needed.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
