Job Title: Assistant Middle School Principal - ACADEMIC Location: Middle SchoolReports To: Middle School PrincipalSubordinates: Middle School StaffPosition Type: Full-Time, Exempt, Annual PositionSchool Year: 2025-2026Salary: $85,000 to $105,000POSITION SUMMARY: The Middle School Principal will support the academic and social-emotional growth of students, contribute to a strong sense of belonging, and partner with staff and families to create a positive and safe learning environment. Working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principal will assist with instructional leadership, operational management, school culture, and staff development.This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of this position and is not an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities, or working conditions associated with the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Leadership: Provide instructional leadership aligned with school and district goalsAssist with curriculum implementation and instructional coaching.Support the implementation of evidence-based practices for diverse learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities.Assist in teacher supervision and evaluation using DESEs Educator Evaluation Framework.Participate in data meetings and help guide intervention planning and instructional adjustments.Support school-based teams such as the Academic Team and Provide real-time, in-classroom support to teachers and staff, including guidance and classroom management support.Help implement and monitor professional learning aligned to staff needs and school priorities.School Culture and Teacher Support: Promote a school climate that fosters inclusion, belonging, and safety for all students.Provide support to colleagues for proactive responsiveness to student behavior, discipline, and social-emotional needs..Collaborate with guidance team to support student successSupport investigations related to bullying, attendance concerns, and behavioral incidents.Communicate regularly with families about student academic progress, interventions, and opportunities for acceleration.Meet with families/guardians as needed to build partnerships and resolve concerns.Operations and Compliance: Assist in the allocation of supplies and instructional materials to classrooms.Assist in preparing schedules for classes, duties, extracurricular programs, and special events.Coordinate and supervise after-school activities and student events.Support school arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess supervision routines.Staff Supervision and Development: Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orienting new staff members.Foster a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and accountability.Support daily coverage and substitute management, including scheduling, orientation, and performance oversight.Assist in articulating and enforcing school policies and procedures.Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent enforcement of expectations and reinforce positive behavior systems.Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback.Provide continuous professional feedback using observations, performance evaluations, and other coaching opportunities.Adhere to all School policies in partnership with Human Resources and Executive Leadership, when necessary.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: Masters degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.Massachusetts DESE Principal/Assistant Principal License (Grades 5-8 or 5-12) required.Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Administrator Endorsement (or ability to obtain before start date) required.Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in an urban or diverse school setting, preferably at the middle school level.Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, MCAS assessment, and DESE regulations.Understanding of strategies for English Learners (ELs) and commitment to promoting language equity.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.Experience working in a charter school or similar educational setting.Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or other languages spoken by the school community is a plus.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary.Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a school and office setting.Some travel between schools may be required.Occasional evening and weekend events for Board of Trustee meetings, parent meetings, college nights, academic and/or athletic events, or professional development may be necessary.Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.Important Note: Applicants who are hired for this position and are found to have provided falsified or inaccurate information during the application process are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.Compensation and Benefits: Full-Time, Exempt, Annual position that is compensated based on experience and is not on a salary scale.
