Coffey Bros. Moving, a highly-regarded local moving service with a 5-star rating, is excited to offer an internship for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on management experience, specifically in dispatching our labor teams and managing logistics. As a Dispatch Managing Intern, you will learn the various aspects of our dispatch operations. This includes gaining experience in hiring, training our movers and drivers, dispatching teams, directing and coordinating moving jobs and personnel schedules, managing customer service inquiries including claims, complaints, and negotiations, finalizing job details, and overseeing our supply and equipment inventory, along with other resources essential for our moving projects.
We are seeking candidates who have completed a college degree in management or are currently enrolled in a similar field of study. Experience in previous summer jobs involving labor, landscaping, roofing, or construction is beneficial. Ideally, candidates will have demonstrated leadership abilities through extracurricular activities, athletics, or positions held during their academic careers.
During this internship, you will learn how to effectively manage labor teams, including service teams, our fleet, equipment, and customer interactions. You will also gain insights into maximizing revenue, maintaining quality control, and implementing loss prevention strategies.
**You will learn and be responsible for the following essential duties:***
- Performing daily closing truck inventory of materials and equipment.
- Maintaining daily fleet logs and reports.
- Managing daily and nightly driver and truck check-in/out procedures.
- Scheduling truck repairs and routine maintenance.
- Creating and maintaining logs for fleet damage, repairs, and maintenance.
- Demonstrating a commitment to safety and ensuring all trucks comply with ILCC, DOT, and FMCSA regulations.
- Ensuring quality service by monitoring on-time job performance, minimizing crew wait times, and maintaining productivity.
- Managing daily scheduled projects, including personnel assignments.
- Overseeing the management of our equipment, including the fleet and moving equipment/supplies.
- Maintaining project records, including attendance and employee performance.
- Ordering and restocking supplies on trucks.
- Participating in the hiring process, including interviewing, screening, and training new hires.
- Utilizing our GPS fleet tracking system to ensure jobs are on schedule, monitor for any driver misconduct, and keep customers informed of any delays.
- Collaborating effectively with team members and occasionally assisting movers on jobs during times of short staffing (requiring the ability to lift 75lbs or more).
- Providing ongoing leadership and coaching related to document training, service quality, reliability, productivity, and accountability.
- Addressing disciplinary concerns and implementing corrective actions.
- Adhering to a weekly schedule of Monday to Saturday, from 6:30 am to 5 pm or until the last truck returns (with a flex day offered during the week).
- Maintaining availability to work up to 7 consecutive days during peak periods.* Being capable of lifting and carrying 75lbs or more up and down stairs, on and off trucks, and over long distances.
**Requirements:***
- Must be physically fit and able to move on and off trucks and carry large items, as well as work alongside movers when necessary.
- Previous experience in labor-intensive roles or heavy lifting is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for the past 3 years, with no speeding violations or accidents.
- Prior experience driving straight box trucks up to 26 feet (under 26,000 lbs) a plus
- Excellent communication skills are essential.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills, including coaching, facilitation, and team building.* Good computer operating skills are required.
- Ability to multitask, remain composed, and effectively resolve issues in high-pressure situations.
