Pastry Assistant

Position Summary:
The Pastry Assistant supports the Pastry Chef in preparing and producing high-quality baked goods and desserts. This role involves assisting with daily mise en place, following recipes, ensuring food safety standards are maintained, and contributing to the smooth operation of the pastry department. A passion for baking, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, breads, and other baked goods.
- Follow standardized recipes and plating guidelines to ensure consistency.
- Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, and glazes according to recipe specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times.
- Label and store ingredients and finished products properly.
- Assist with inventory and ordering of pastry ingredients and supplies as needed.
- Support the Pastry Chef in developing new menu items and seasonal specials.
- Help maintain equipment and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and health codes and procedures.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of pastry stations for events, banquets, and service periods.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team and other departments to ensure timely service.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a bakery, pastry kitchen, or culinary environment preferred.
- Culinary or pastry arts degree or certification is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of pastry techniques and baking methods.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow directions precisely and adapt to changes quickly.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to learning and improvement.
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 50 per week
