Position Overview
We are seeking a legal assistant to provide both administrative and legal support to attorneys and paralegals. This role includes client-facing responsibilities, document handling, and assistance with case preparation. The ideal candidate will have prior law firm experience (personal injury preferred), strong organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Support: Assist with case intake, routine updates, and client communications; provide excellent customer service and support.
- Scheduling & Calendar Management: Maintain attorneys’ and paralegals’ calendars; schedule client meetings, depositions, hearings, and deadlines.
- Case File Organization: Open and maintain client files (electronic and hard copy); scan, index, and organize pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and medical records.
- E-Filing & Service of Process: Assist with filing pleadings through Georgia’s PeachCourt and Odyssey systems (and occasionally ECF/PACER) under attorney supervision. Coordinate with process servers and sheriff’s offices under attorney supervision.
- Discovery Assistance: Help prepare and organize discovery requests and responses under attorney supervision. Track deadlines and assist clients with gathering responsive information and documents.
- Drafting Support: Prepare simple correspondence, form pleadings, subpoenas, and notices under attorney supervision.
- Administrative Support: Answer and route phone calls, greet clients and visitors, process mail, and assist with copying, scanning, and printing for mediations, depositions, and hearings.
- Trial & Mediation Prep: Assist with assembling binders, exhibits, and witness lists under attorney supervision.
Qualifications
Required:
- Prior law firm or professional office experience (personal injury preferred)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and general computer skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, motivated, and a reliable team player
Preferred:
- Experience with Georgia e-filing systems (PeachCourt, Odyssey)
- Familiarity with personal injury cases and discovery process
