Duties

  • Responsibility for effective and efficient operation and maintenance of all gas systems and equipment, such as steam heating, steam generation, and vacuum systems, radiators, and circulation pumps, sewerage system, all pressure steam systems and associated parts, hot water generators, sterilizers, heating systems, fire suppression systems, pneumatic tube system, and non-medical equipment.
  • Able to lay out and install various kinds of piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline; determine the placement and elevation and install steam generators, vacuum and condensate pumps, and radiators
  • Replaces heat exchangers, flash and expansion tanks, and automatic and manual control valves. The installation, maintenance, and repair of all afore mentioned equipment falls within their purview.
  • Ability to use and apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories, and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving.
  • Ability to disassemble, repair, and rebuild components parts of pumps, pulley, gears, etc.
  • Creates and/or reviews all relevant standard operating procedures relevant to the duties of staff
  • Collects data documenting current piping system configuration, dimensions and structural interference that will impact alterations, and applies trade knowledge to develop recommended piping system arrangements to resolve interference problems, to meet special needs of the planned installation and for economy, coordinating approval with engineering.
  • Determines the best way for the shop to manufacture, repair or modify various piping systems/products.
  • Calculates layout dimensions in order to clear interferences and prevent fouling of piping products.
  • Reads and understands building plans, blue prints, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, technical publications, and maintenance manuals.
  • Reviews requests for supplies, equipment and materials and approve the orders according to the applicable Engineering Memorandum and local guides; issue work orders to the shops, or provide verbal instructions on required tasks which must be effectively planned especially when multiple trades need to perform work on the same projects to avoid confusion.
  • Transforms engineering drawings and design specifications into an installation sequence plan for the sectional manufacturing of piping systems.
  • Ensures that work is performed in a safe manner with adherence to SLVHCS policy.
  • Plans extensively on project designs, installation of new equipment, remodeling, new construction, and modernization of systems and equipment.
  • Proficiency with the work order system and report on metrics such as preventive maintenance completion, corrective maintenance turnaround time, and adherence to documentation of services standards.
  • Responsible for supervising other workers, demonstrating proper operations and work methods; recommend promotion or reassignment of subordinate employees, makes formal appraisals of their work performance, and determines training needs for all levels of subordinate employees and workers.
  • Responsible for independently diagnosing, planning, and completing projects or work orders involving major systems in the entirety.
  • Knowledgeable of the National Plumbing Codes and all applicable NFPA Codes. Has full knowledge of the proper and safe use of all types of power tools, hand tools, and test equipment being used by subordinates.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30 pm, 7:00am-3:30 pm, 7:30am-4:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Physical Requirements: Works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. He/she often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard to-reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, Will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds. May be exposed to fumes, loud noises, saw dust and other environmental hazards.
